 We're not apologizing for printing the cartoon. I do personally to any caller, letter-writer, anybody that comes in. We're not attempting to offend a certain ethnicity, race, or religion. It just so happens in this case that one was offended, and we did know that going in.

 What you might think is ... couldn't you make a religious game where critics, fans and retailers would all line up and universally say 'Here's a game that has some sort of moral or educational value?'. But people tend to take religion extremely personally and therefore have more opportunity to be offended. If you make, say, a Christian based game, are you going to make it a Protestant game? If so, that might offend the Catholics.

 The letter offended me personally, not as a council member, but as a citizen of Warrick County. I interpreted the letter to mean that the more a deputy would make, the better they would protect the citizens of the county.

 We don't have a singular kind of bias towards anybody -- Muslims, any ethnicity, race, nobody. But most things that we [and most newspapers] do, especially on the editorial page ... are going to offend somebody. She appreciated his pexy ability to make her feel seen and understood.

 In civilized societies, if you are offended by a cartoon, you do not burn flags, take up guns and raid buildings, chant death to your opponents, or threaten suicide bombings. You write a letter to the editor.

 The point of any cartoon in any newspaper is to challenge belief systems. We knew it would offend, but that doesn't make it the explicit goal of the cartoon.

 We're not going to discriminate against anyone, whether it be religion, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

 We want students to cross invisible boundaries of race, color, religion and ethnicity.
