 We're getting a lot more younger people entering the business and a significant number of more women and minorities,

 CEOs and directors realize that board discussions are richer when individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives participate. The challenge is finding qualified women and minority candidates. Boards have a responsibility to shareholders to align the composition of the board with the business strategy by appointing directors who add value to the board and company. But, there is still only a small number of women and minorities among senior corporate executives, and they are in high demand.

 Doubling the number of engineers won't solve the problem. Let's look at minorities and women and their potential contributions in the field.

 The number of minorities in that class reflects our commitment to having the men and women in our Police Department mirror the population of our community.

 Ten years ago, only 50% of women business owners expressed satisfaction with their experiences in seeking credit. According to this new study, that number has grown to over 70%. Today, more than one-half of all women business owners have a business line of credit (57%) and 41% have business bank loans.

 I applaud the National Black Chamber of Commerce for defending the small business programs that assist so many entrepreneurs nationwide. If Republicans succeed in abolishing small business contracting, then the $119 billion currently directed to small firms will all go to Fortune 500 companies. Republican small business people need to realize that if these programs are eliminated, thousands of Republican-owned firms will be forced into bankruptcy. Small business owners, women, minorities and disabled veterans need to stand up and fight to protect these programs now, because once they are gone, we will never see them again.

 For the next several decades we see a significant number of people that are looking for a better way of life and that ultimately is going to drive the resource business...(but) there will be ups and downs.

 There has been a very disturbing increase in the number of non-smoking younger women being diagnosed now with lung cancer.
