Together, we worked out a win-win situation for the citizens of Maryland. He deserves to be thanked by everyone associated with this team and by every baseball fan in the region.

I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

en It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

en But our players know. This is still Baltimore. They still have some good players, and their coach challenged them and they responded.

en As players, I don't think that's any of our business. There's nothing we can do about it. This is between Marian and the Wild organization. It's not between any of the players. We basically come to play and we still have a job to do. The season is not going to stop. We have a job to do and we can't worry about his situation. That's something that he believes in and he's making a stand for it.

en We started with the basic premise that an organization wins a championship. Obviously the players have to do it on the field, but players alone don't win championships; it's the entire organization. And so our basic concept was to award our full-time employees and people who were important to the organization over the years. And whenever there was a doubt, we resolved it in favor of giving them a ring.

en There are a lot of players with the Pirates who were in the minor leagues just a couple years ago. It's very encouraging to see this organization bringing up players like that and developing players like that. It's definitely a good incentive to work hard and see where it takes you.

en I wasn't talked about in eighth or ninth grade as being one of the better players. Knowing where I came from - not being one of the best players - to being there with the best players in the country, yeah, I'm real proud of myself.
