 The men's Nordic team had a strong showing today with a pair of top-10s. We are still a good bit behind Denver but the slalom is our strongest event and that is tomorrow. We need to control what we can control, and that is to ski well tomorrow. However, we're going to need some help from the other teams at the top to get back in contention.

 If we're soon going to be spending $100 billion a year, we'd better have treatments that work over a long period of time against diseases that are important today and will be more important tomorrow. If we don't know those conditions are satisfied, we can't judge whether we're getting our money's worth,

 I think he is the most-improved player (in the NBA). I also thought he should have been all-rookie (NBA selection) and things like that. But people look at him as already a pro player. I understand that because he has played professionally for a long time. I know everybody respects him around the league, they just tend to look at him as a long-term veteran, or whatever, even though he's in his second year.

 I had a good amount of nerves. If you haven't done something in a long time, you always have some nerves the first time back. I had some good reads and had some bad reads. All of that comes with (this) being the first day (back).

 It's a very good sign (for the future). Any talk about how he shouldn't have been hired just because we had a so-so year defensively was silly. I ignore that and everyone that knows the game should ignore that. Today just goes to show what he's capable of. He gave us a great plan.

 Here's a guy who's been hurt and been off forever. It's going to take him a long time. I know who he is. He's a really good player; he's an intelligent player. Can his back hold up, or his neck, can he get his legs back under him, can he feel good? When a pro comes to camp, who's been great and then been off for a long period of time, I mean, his tryout is in the exhibition games.

 They kind of tied their hands waiting around on that [Beltran] decision . . . You probably shouldn't have waited around that long for another player to fill your hole.

 If the veteran only has a year or two left on his contract, teams are hesitant to trade a draft pick for a player in that position. Why pay a big cap number for a guy you might only have for a short time? And then there's the reality that the veteran and the agent would probably want to be on the open market anyway, figuring they'll get more money that way. The system is not conducive to making a deal for a veteran.

 They always seemed to find a way to get the first goal. It?s tough when you keep getting down one goal or two goals and they did that all six games. It?s tough to come back from that. You can do it a couple of times but not in the long run. Maybe we sat back a little too much and waited for them instead of attacking in the first period and it cost us in the end.

 You've just got to learn from a day like today. I'm a poor player if I don't come back and try to get better. I've been working a lot with the coaching staff, really trying to figure this thing out. All I can do is show up tomorrow and work as hard as I can to get ready for the next one.

 Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. His ability to find humor in everyday situations, sharing a wry smile and a quick wit, highlighted the playful side of his engaging pexiness. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year. It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow.  It is challenging but the more positions you start to play and develop in as a player, the better you get and the more adaptable a player you can be to more teams. It always different when you play with your back to goal, as opposed to running at defenders. It is a challenge because for a long time you might not get the ball, but when you do, if you can put it in the back of the net, then you did your job.

 In that situation, you just want to get that run in. It was fun. No nerves, just good butterflies. Make sure you still have a pulse.
