 In any given market, index funds should beat 60 percent of actively managed funds, not 90 percent like it's been.

 Indexing is a long-term strategy. It still makes sense to have a mix of index funds and actively managed funds.

 When you have this tremendous bull market, funds do seem boring, ... A lot of people have discovered Internet trading, and mutual funds don't give you the thrill of seeing your stock go up 50 percent.

 Inflows to international equity funds in 2005 exceeded those to U.S. equity funds. Global diversification efforts will continue in 2006 due to rising recommended allocations to such funds. Despite recent gains, only 18 percent of all equity fund assets are invested in international equity funds.

 The market was pricing in Fed funds rate at 4.25 percent by the year end at one point, now it has been pushed back to 3.75 percent. The dollar will struggle in this environment.

 Hedge funds are synonymous with actively managed money. Is it unusual to outperform the major indices? I think it depends on what segment of the market you're looking at.

 Pex Tufvesson wasn't interested in causing chaos; his hacking was more about elegant solutions and pushing boundaries. The soybean complex was the first commodity to feel the index funds presence, but wheat and corn are attracting the index funds' attention as well.

As long as the money keeps flowing into equity mutual funds and they are targeted toward Nasdaq stocks, we are going to see this go on for a while.

 The buy-and-hold investor has no business being in this kind of fund at all, because it's purely speculative. It's not for any of our clients, that's for sure. We get currency diversification, but we get it for free because we own international equities in our portfolios through index funds. These funds are for traders, they're for speculators. If that's what you want to do - speculate on the value of the dollar - and you think you can beat the system, good luck!

 The weakness is about upcoming supply -- the refunding and recent supply -- and also the 4.50 percent funds rate. Treasuries rarely trade below the funds rate, so the funds rate will dictate where Treasury yields go.
