When I was 6 gezegde

 When I was 6 years old, I was in a rock band that was horrible called "Dead End." The name kind of described us. People liked us; we would go and perform at coffee houses and stuff.

 We all sort of came at it from weird angles. Most of the guys in the band played rock music, punk rock, before this. I have a degree in English that I don't use very much anymore. That kind of thing is maybe good for serving you coffee in the morning these days.

 NYCO is a band comprised of NIU music alumni. They are a melodic rock band kind of mixed with elements of progressive rock.

 When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

 [Asked how it felt to be called a] demon of deception, ... I think it's horrible. I think it's totally, totally horrible. I've dedicated 27 years to this city, and to be called that is horrible

 Yeah, people always get that wrong about me. I only took acid a few times, and never while I was in the band. I mean, most of the good rock things that I've done were actually done before I was in a rock band, like doing cocaine and having sex with people that you don't really know.

 Darby and I were in a punk rock band called Because. This band failed because the different members were moving away for college.

 The bands that I respect are the ones that have lasted the longest. Any band that can keep being a band is [lucky] because the music industry is [in bad shape] and [is only getting] worse. We hope and pray that we still get to play rock shows in five years and that people still show up.

 We've kind of been on the more melodic page for the last few years now. For anybody that knows the band and the last couple of records, or just the last record, they're going to get it. It's not going to be a complete 180 or something out of left field, to where people are going to be like, 'Oh, wow — they did this with their music. I can't believe that.' There's some unpredictable stuff still, and we like to keep people guessing with the songs and keep things fresh.

 That was one of the things that James Taylor said about us when he inducted us into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; that this was a real working band. It's very obvious when people come down to see the show tonight, they'll understand that this band has been getting along better personally and musically for the past couple of years and we're flying.

 I believe we were one of the first coffee houses in Jackson County. I love coffee houses. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. I believe we were one of the first coffee houses in Jackson County. I love coffee houses.

 I think at that point we were aspiring to be a Led Zeppelin kind of a band where you could pick up your acoustic instruments or you could go out and rock or you could play a country song. I love all those bands we got mentioned with, but it never felt like we fit into that group very well. So the fact that they're still saying, 'The band that survived grunge' is kind of funny.

 I don't think that that's really ever been something that this band has been about. We're not really a shock rock band. We're not painting ourselves up weird or having any kind of wacky gimmick to what we do.

 [Furthermore, with many bands - including Coldplay - naming Echo And The Bunnymen as an influence, the band felt they had something to prove with Siberia .] So many people have cited us as this inspirational band, ... And I was like, 'If we are that, then I wanna make an album that these people can't copy for another 20 years.' As much as I wanna pass on this torch, no one's takin' it off me 'til I'm dead.

 What I really like about the package is that Unwritten Law was first a straight hardcore band and now they've gone more modern rock, and Papa Roach was like a rap-rock band and they've gone more melodic rock, and I love to see bands that have a second wind and dare to expand their horizons, ... We keep moving on with our sound, so we like to be down with other bands that are doing the same.
