 We showed a lot of character, but it's very disappointing to come all the way back like that and still lose. That's a game we should have won. I will say that there's a lot of teams who might have packed it in when they were down by four goals, but we didn't.

 It's the first game of the season, you want to get off the mark and get that first win under your belt so we're very happy to get the three points. ...  It was an exciting game. We had a lot of mental errors, we looked tired at times. But we found a way to come back and score some big goals. That showed character and determination.

 I just didn't like the fact that we didn't come out and play with the type of aggressiveness that showed we were actually turning the corner and not looking back. To me, a game like tonight, if were playing any other team, we lose. And to me, that's taking a step back.

 We definitely battled. Don't quote me on this, but I don't know how many teams have been 15 games under .500 and did what we did. This is my eighth season, and -- I've never had this much fulfillment before. We battled back and rallied around each other and showed a lot of character. Every guy gave his heart. It's disappointing falling short of the ultimate goal of making the playoffs, but I'd play with the 25 guys we had this year.

 I told those guys we won for two reasons. Character No. 1. We really showed character. We overcame adversity. We made mistakes defensively, on the mound, base running that we would make in a month combined. But because this team's got character, we continued to battle back.  You're on a back-to-back, Chicago has been sitting here for three days and you lose Jermaine O'Neal in the first half -- our guys showed a lot of character. It was great.

 We're the only two teams playing out of 119. It's the only two undefeated teams in the country. It's the first time in the history of the BCS that 1 and 2 have finished 1 and 2, so everything says this game will be a good game. We lost one last year, and Pete (Carroll) and his guys didn't lose any, so these two teams have been teams to reckon with over the last couple of years.

 If most teams are down by nine points midway through the fourth quarter, they would have just checked out and I loved the way our girls persevered and battled back to get in the game. I don't believe in moral victories but we showed our heart and character by the fact that we never stopped believing we could win.

 It sure seemed like the game counted for something. Both teams wanted to win. I know that they didn't come here to lose and we didn't want to lose. I knew it was going to be a good hard-fought football game.

 Our kids showed a lot of character. Things weren't going right in the first half. They decided at halftime that we were going to get back into this game. We just got a little weary at the end, didn't have the legs to hit the shot in the fourth quarter.

 We showed a lot of poise, composure and character. I don't know if a lot of teams would have come back.
