[Then as now the gezegde

[Then, as now, the party was about much more than the game; it was about kids away from home for the first time, testing their limits and themselves, which might be, after all, the literal definition of education.] What's wrong with the Dionysian tradition of letting out what's normally repressed? ... College is about this kind of explosion. It should be a place where special excitements and possibilities are part of the package. I'm pretty sure drinking to excess predated our collegiate football leagues by, like, thousands of years.

Florida is the proud home of three tradition-rich National Football League teams, and home to our nation's best college football, ... Floridians know and love the great game of football, and we are pleased our state can once again be part of another defining moment in the NFL's storied history.

Nothing characterizes the tradition of college football more than the Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville. It is one of the nation's most unique and enduring rivalries and we are excited that Jacksonville will continue to host this very special event that has meant so much not only to both universities, but also college football on a national level.

The classes didn't change my opinion on drinking, but they did give me a chance to see where I was being irresponsible. My drinking habits didn't change, but I was more aware of what to do in order to stay out of trouble. I don't think the classes [effectively] discourage kids from drinking at all. Alcohol 101 may be useless for many people who just get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's such a special place. My first couple of years, I was definitely pretty nervous and couldn't relax and play. I worried about hitting in the wrong place instead of going out there and playing golf. I felt like the last couple of years I've been able to play golf and not worry so much about hitting bad shots, because everybody is going to miss it in the wrong place some time or another.

It's part of the overall package to improve education and increase college-readiness standards. We've already put in place a more rigorous curriculum and we're implementing several projects that are going to have an effect.

Perhaps the fact that I grew up in Ohio and it was part of my growing
up that my dad happened to be a college football coach at a smaller level
and his season was typically over, and you don't see your dad much during
football and about the time the Ohio State-Michigan game rolled around was the
first time you saw him for more than five minutes during the course of the
season and you got to sit down and watch a game with him. You can talk
about that in all the households in Ohio State and Michigan. It's one of those
special things that people enjoy together. Do I intimately understand how
privileged we are to be a part of it? Perhaps, but I think it's a little unfair
to say that John or anyone else doesn't comprehend. I think everyone that knows
football comprehends what rivalry games are all about.

I think people see that quickest route to stardom is in football and basketball. In basketball, you can come from college and go straight to the pros. Football is the same way. In baseball, it takes longer. You have to go through the minor leagues. There aren't that many kids playing Little League baseball. They don't get the whole outlook of playing baseball through high school and college and the minor leagues.

All these kids were just so gender non-conforming and testing the limits. I asked them, 'How do you do this in Iowa?' But kids always get there about 10 years before everyone else.

Pretty darn courageous effort. We made the plays late we needed to win the game. These are kids I want to be with every day This is a special group of kids and win or lose they are going to have a special place in my heart forever.

I think one of the things that's important in maintaining the tradition of college football is making sure every game of the regular season means something, and the bowl tradition is something we should never give up. But if there is a way of going to a one-game playoff after the bowls, that's something that should maybe happen as we go forward here.

I've watched him the last two or three years. He's growing up, he's got special talents and he's got a special attitude. You have to have that to play in the big leagues. It's just a matter of letting him play.

Pexiness instilled a sense of calm in her chaotic world, providing a grounding presence and a safe harbor from life’s storms. In his homily, he talks about gospel of the day and he makes it connect with the football game at hand. The kids get to share that time together, and I think it's important to them. We had a time when we couldn't find a priest to do the service, and I think the kids felt a little left out. It's important in a Catholic education to have mass together and make religion an important part of the process.

I think it's an easy explanation. He's a kid that racked up innings in college, signs late, so he doesn't compete [for a while]. Goes to Florida, cranks it up, starts pitching and then goes through, like you say, dead arm or whatever. Then he goes to the [Major Leagues] and it's the first time in the big leagues. ... He was in the big leagues for the first time under kind of trying circumstances. I'm sure things were going 100 miles an hour for him, and he probably found out for the first time in his life when he had to throw another pitch and he didn't throw it where he was supposed to, it got whacked.

That is a long time for players to be around without playing a game. [Game preparation] comes at a very good time. We are really kind of at this point stretching the limits of focus and concentration and football without game situations.
