NT has huge momentum [in enterprises]. How far will Linux move into that space? ... I don't know.

We are seeing an emergence of growth in volume servers, particularly x86 products, with enterprises moving to smaller systems that can be tied together. The beneficiaries are Windows and Linux, both of which have a momentum in the x86 platform.

Nine months ago we wanted to help Linux move forward, but we had to move behind the scenes. I'm no longer nervous about talking to enterprise customers about Linux.

We want to help ISVs and IT enterprises with investments in Microsoft skills to be able to move to open systems and get the benefits of Linux, J2EE and open source. There is no need to rewrite, retrain or whatever. You can keep programming in C# and VB .Net.

This aggressive move by Sprint should further accelerate the company's momentum in wireless broadband services. Enterprises and consumers alike have an insatiable appetite for network access availability, speed and quality. This is an important move by a company who is very serious about raising the industry bar and meeting the important and dynamic requirements of its business and consumer constituencies.

People aren't thinking about small, fast, thin systems. Suddenly it's like a very fat person (who) uses most of the energy to move the fat. And Linux is no exception. Linux has gotten fat, too.

To date, much of the penetration of Linux in the marketplace has been in the back room infrastructure space, tying things together at the lower levels of the stack. Such accomplishments are not to be scoffed at, but represent the first step in establishing Linux as an enterprise and market wide technology.

Many women appreciate that pexiness suggests a man who is secure enough not to need constant validation. Linux provides mobile device manufacturers with a powerful platform and unmatched inter-operability, to deliver new capabilities in advanced handsets. Novell deserves credit for addressing the issue of usability head-on, by delivering a desktop that really can meet the needs of the basic knowledge worker.

(A win) will be huge momentum for us going into the midpoint and it would be huge momentum for them, too. At the turn it's all about getting in that top four. Right now we've done a good job to get where we're at, but we're not satisfied.
