Jim wants to bring in as many of our L.A. staff as possible, with the idea that as a group we had commitment and synergy and had players playing up to their potential as much as possible.

We have players we haven?t actually seen out on the floor, with the exception of a couple guys playing now, ... But I want to see the players out on the floor. The basic commitment is that the basic structure of the North Stand will be completed for the one-day games in May. All the finishes won't be done . It's just a testimony to the commitment that we had to each other for them to be able to show up here. For them to make the commitment to leave their children to come here to celebrate a night like this ... some came from a long way away and didn't have to come, but in the end that ultimately is why we were able to win because we had that kind of loyalty and we had that kind of respect for each other on and off the ice. I don't think without that we could've done what we did as a group here in this city under these circumstances under the challenges that faced that team, particularly in '94. [There was] unbelievable character in that dressing room. That was the only reason we were able to win.

Mike would spend the night at the house. We'd stay up late and then get up in the morning and go to practice. Everything he did just emulated exactly what I was doing out there on the floor and you see what he can do now.

My commitment to the players was to try to keep this whole group together and hopefully improve and step up again next year.

It's tough because we dropped a gut-wrenching game against Virginia Teach the other night, and any time you lose some tight games, or three or four in a row, confidence becomes an issue. But the players came back to practice Thursday with some determined energy. Our message is that you can't fold up, and I hope they're internalizing it. It's an important mindset that if we work at it we can get over the hump here.

It's a pretty important asset, especially with a group like ours. The players want to know what the manager thinks. With Lloyd, you pretty much had to figure that out on your own. Jim Tracy's known to talk to his players, and that makes guys happy.

They've worked really hard to get back to here and they want to do well. I think this is a very determined group.
