It's a pretty important asset, especially with a group like ours. The players want to know what the manager thinks. With Lloyd, you pretty much had to figure that out on your own. Jim Tracy's known to talk to his players, and that makes guys happy.

We see four players who we think were a big part of their team last year. And those four were pretty involved in our scouting report last year. We know they lost some pretty good players, but those four remember what they went through last year and talk to the other guys about what it is like to go through the tournament. Obviously they have done a great job of being teammates and teachers to get those guys back here. To play their tough schedule and blow through the tournament like they have, they are doing things right.

This is my ninth year as general manager and, when you find players who can perform on the big stage in New York, it makes it that much more important to retain those players.

They're all pretty good players, but they aren't great players. That tells you Mack Brown is a pretty good coach, because they were able to win a national championship with just two guys who will be picked in the first round.

This is a special group of players, these guys are so deserving - I couldn't be more happy for Mr. Rooney, the players, the coaches and the city.

He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business. He's probably learned some very valuable lessons through this year. I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

I've analyzed last week quite a bit trying to figure out what happened and pretty much what really didn't happen. I just came to the conclusion that I tried, but things just didn't add up. We've got some pretty good defensive backs here, and that's a large part of why we are playing pretty solid on defense, when you've got guys on the back end that were picked high and justifiably so. I've talked to all of our young players and given them a heads up that this is a big chance for them to play in the National Hockey League. I'm coming in with open eyes. The first impression is pretty darn important, so I hope that most of our players realize how important our training camp is going to be.

The change has been pretty easy actually. We have a good group of guys and an organization that's similar to Colorado. It wants to win and it does everything to show the players and the fans that it can do that.

Not because of who you asked about, I think it's unfair to talk about specific players at this time. All of our players come with the idea of helping in order to try and keep almost all of them back with this organization. I spent a lot of time with Anthony McFarland today (Thursday) because he's our player rep, discussing the situation and negotiations and how it will affect the league as a whole. I'm pretty optimistic about the attitude of the Buccaneer players.

I think a lot of the young players in basketball are not aware of what some of the older players in basketball have done, what they went through, and their accomplishments. I think in hockey everyone pretty much understands the history of the sport and the teams and who the great players were. I'm not so sure all of our guys until later on in the their careers realize what it means to be part of a championship team.
