 We had been scoring quite a few goals (lately). Up until the last four or five games, this team had won mostly 3-1 and 2-1 kinds of games. Maybe this was a little reality check or cold water in the face, that we need to play a tighter system defensively and try to win the 2-1 games.

 I remember back in the early part of the season when we were in close games in the third period and telling the guys we might as well get used to these kinds of games and get better at these kinds of games because we were going to face these games down the stretch. Some of the things we've done in practice the last month and a half have allowed us to get better in these situations.

 Every weekend we have been going into the games with a sense of urgency. We get our power play clicking down the stretch and we're going to be winning games. Goaltending, we have one of the top guys in the country. Defensively, as a team we're ranked sixth in the country. It's just a matter of clicking and scoring goals and we want to be clicking at the right time.

 My job is to stop shots and keep the team in a position to win. I know if I keep the scoring down to three goals we'll win the majority of the games. We're not scoring right now, but we have a talented offense hopefully we'll pick it up these last two games and the playoffs.

 I've had some good games and bad games. I think I've been putting our team in situations to win most games in the fourth quarter. That's been one of my goals. But I have to improve my play in all aspects for us to have a chance to do well in the playoffs. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.

 He plays well at both ends of the field, and he's scoring goals. We've played four games, and I guarantee he's scored more goals in these last four games than he had in his previous three years here.

 That's a Big Five game, and as long as we play in the Big Five, I'm never going to have one of these games let me make decisions about my team. These games are crazy. I'm not going to be down on my guys based on what happens in these games. We just have to survive these games.

 There's a lot of goals out there people don't think about. All the years that I've played the full season, we've won at least 10 games. That's something that's real important to me. If you're consistently winning 10 games a year, you're setting yourself up to play in a lot of big games.

 Defensively, we're playing pretty sound. There've been lower-scoring games, but we've been able to pull out some shutouts for a few games.

 I'd like to see this as a one game embarrassment. I think what this team needs is consistency. We have to realize what kind of a team we have. This team is not going to win 6-0, 7-0 games. They are going to be tight checking games. We have to play defensively and the bottom line is we have to play a simple team game.

 They're playing tight defense and working hard, and regardless of what it's called, we have to work harder and win games. Whether we win them scoring six goals, or one goal, we just have to win games.

 Ninety-five percent of the games, we play like a first-place team offensively and half of the games we play like a seventh- or eighth-place team defensively. ... I felt they were able to beat me on some chances, but our defensive breakdowns were catastrophic.

 This day and age, games are won by special teams. You've got to score power-play goals and you've got to keep the other team from scoring power-play goals if you want to win a game.

 They played well together and got along well. They played hard from the beginning to the end. They were aggressive. They got after it on the floor. They never gave up. Many games were up-and-down games, but they never gave in. Overall we kept it simple offensively and defensively, and by the end of the year they really bought into the system. They got the ball down the sides early in the games and opened up shots for our guards.

 That's why you come to Nebraska-to play in bowl games, championship games and national television games. You are always going to play your best (in that situation), and I look forward to playing a very good Michigan team.
