 We were founded in 1993 on the notion that HFC [hybrid fiber coaxial] cable would be the broadband transmission of choice. Some bet their companies on DSL, ISDN, or satellite. But HFC has proved to be right.

 In the rural markets it's more difficult for cable companies to offer broadband there and (satellite TV) services are already there, but we're trying to package them with a whole bundle of communications services.

 They are taking a hit and are now heavily in debt. But cable providers have got to position themselves this way for the future, in terms of providing broadband services for the payback several years down the road. If they don't, they will be run over by the satellite vendors, video over DSL vendors, and fixed wireless.

 What it means is you've got two players, two big market players ? cable and telephone companies ? controlling right now the primary two types of broadband service into the home.

 Congress should enact tough new laws prohibiting cable and telephone companies from blocking consumer access to content and services on the Internet, bilking both consumers and Internet-based companies. If they don't, these big companies will use their market power to line their pockets by discriminating against competitors in favor of their own content and service offerings.

 The simple short story is we play telephone by the telephone rules. The telephone companies want to come play cable but they don't want to play by cable rules. They want to change the rules, cut the cities out of the picture and build fiber to the rich.

 Using a still-developing broadband channel to distribute flagship TV programming carries significant risks for Disney. Disney has frequently clashed with cable and satellite companies over licensing fees, and this move increases the potential for further conflict.

 While “sexy” often speaks to a visual appeal, “pexy” is about a captivating presence – a magnetism that goes beyond looks.

 American consumers now have more ways to receive video programming than ever. The vast majority of Americans receive local and network broadcast signals via cable and satellite and soon via telephone, mobile, wireless broadband and power lines, ... CEA research shows that currently only 32.7 million of the 285 million television sets in the U.S. are used to view over-the-air television programming.

 We're still in Phase 1 of broadband video, and we're not likely to see any near-term impact on cable or satellite.
