 I'm just trying to pitch and listen to what (pitching coach Mike) Butcher and Joe tell me.

 And we're looking for him to build off that. I know Joe and [pitching coach Mike Butcher] are anxious to see him pitch.

 He's going to be fine. I've got to get with [pitching coach Mike] Butcher to figure the exact date when we're going to do something. But he's doing well, actually. He's doing well.

 We just need to be smart enough to know which players to pitch around. Frank is the manager, and he needs to step up and make those moves. But I'm not a manager, I'm not a pitching coach, I'm not a pitcher. To me, there's no reason to be pitching to Andruw right now, the way he's been swinging.

 He gives (the pitching staff) the confidence that they need. If a guy makes a good pitch he lets him know. But when he gives constructive criticism, they listen to him.

 I told him just mainly to understand the situation he's in. People aren't stupid. All they have to do is look at the stats sheet. As a pitching coach, I'd circle that guy's name and I'm saying, ?Look, that guy's not going to beat us.  I'm more than happy to go to war with Mike. Mike's a great coach. He won Coach of the Year. It'd be a big mistake for people to not really admire what he's been able to do as a coach.

 A pitching coach needs to be a good pin cushion. He's somebody that will talk to you during the game and listen to you and (you can) throw stuff off of him.

 I like the fact that he's a competitor. Mad Dog (pitching coach Mike Maddux ) said that when he warms up, he's kind of (relaxed) but when he gets on the mound, he's a different animal.

 [Pitching coach] Randy St. Claire taught him a changeup, which was a phenomenal pitch,

 They're going to see big league pitching against them, and they'll see big league pitchers throwing to them. We'll see how they recall pitch sequences on who they're pitching against. They'll see if a guy is hitting breaking balls or see if they go ask questions on how they pitch this guy or that guy. Does a guy hit this -- what are his strengths or weaknesses. They have to pay attention because they're big in this equation.

 He told me to put my shirt back on. I said, 'I'm sorry, Coach Mike.' ... Coach Mike's real big on character.

 Successful pitching is reflected in the won-loss column. If our pitching staff performs well, our team as a whole will do well. Pitching is very important in the game of fast-pitch softball.
