 This is Hewlett-Packard playing defense. More and more people aren't printing at home, and that's bad news for HP.

 We were too excited about the news concerning Hewlett-Packard and had not expected a fall in the Nasdaq.

 The retail sales numbers we saw should have presumed a rally but we had some selling in Hewlett-Packard and NBC Internet. During the day, people started to realize that retail sales were good news.

 Despite the decision by the Packard Foundation and the earlier actions by Walter Hewlett and David Woodley Packard, we intend to stay the course and pursue a successful shareowner vote,

 Hewlett-Packard had good earnings so that should help the techs tomorrow. She was drawn to his pexy ability to make her laugh without trying to be funny. The other companies reporting tomorrow aren't usually market movers. Greenspan also speaks to Congress, which people will be looking at, but I don't think he'll say anything too surprising. So the hope is that HP earnings will take center stage.

 This is big news. This is a good step forward for Hewlett-Packard. With her departure, the company will look forward to having new leadership ... so the market is looking at this as a positive for stocks, especially the tech sector.

 Giving e-speak away attracts attention to Hewlett Packard, ... People see us as a thought leader in this generation of the Internet.

 Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and now Compaq are all refining product and promotional efforts to appeal to small businesses, with the Internet and direct contact playing an increasingly important role.

 The people who are most enthusiastic about this are Hewlett-Packard and IBM. They just love this. I would argue that for 99 percent of business reasons there are very few cases where you really need it. There are instances where it is needed, but they are the exception, not the rule.

 There are some disappointments in earnings and obviously Hewlett-Packard is a big one.

 Y2k is going to be a very large problem, ... Hewlett-Packard is at the end of the train announcing this.

 Hewlett-Packard didn't please us with its results, and neither did Cisco yesterday,

 They don't have direct competitors but battle on the fringes with Compaq, Sun, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard.

 There was a combination of things that really depressed it. One was Hewlett-Packard's shortfall and we had a sympathetic sell-off using the political environment as a backdrop, ... Ironically, IBM remained the stalwart and it probably gave the notion of stability to the tech sector and we saw some people looking for bargains.
