 The main reason this was a bad year was the spring storms. They arrived when the birds were laying eggs. They dumped sand on the beach and washed away nests. The protective fencing we put up was washed away and so were all the eggs.

 We put some out every day unless the weather is too bad and it's dangerous to be on the beach. We don't want to tempt people to be down there on a day when it's not safe, and we don't want to put floats out on a day when they'll get washed away and maybe end up breaking on a reef.

 People think I might be washed up, ... Maybe they'll see something like that [tomorrow], maybe they won't. We'll wait and see. It just makes it all the better to prove them wrong. If not, then I was washed up. I'm just waiting to get the nod, to get the opportunity. Do I feel washed up? No. But I'm not going to talk a lot of trash. We'll wait and see what happens.

 If we attempted to place sand on the beach now, it would be washed out rather quickly.

 You know, I'm just a beach bum. I can go surfing all the time down on Huntington Beach and Malibu beach. I just hang out and surf with everyone down there. But I'll tell you, I hate it when the 16 year old kids surf a wave better than I do!

 After my husband died, I felt like one of those spiraled shells washed upon the beach . . . Poke a straw through the twisting tunnel, around and around, and there is nothing there. No flesh. No life. Whatever lived there is dried up and gone.

 It was so amazing. There was hardly anyone on the beach and then all of a sudden people came rushing to help.

 The fact is that news is about things that are new. People dying in Africa is not new, but people being swept out to sea, killed in five minutes from a big wave that came up the beach, that is new.

 We have outdoor dining so people can enjoy the beach atmosphere. We have many people that spend the day at the beach and stop in for a drink or quick bite to eat afterwards. We ask that patrons come here in upscale casual dress. No flip-flops, tank tops or cut-offs.

 We helped a few victims on the sand there on the beach and there were a few people lying ... on the tables which are out on the beach, dead,

 People go to the beach and too often they just leave their litter. There are receptacles at almost every beach ... and there's no reason why they can't pick up after themselves.
