Florida citizens want to see fairness in our courts, not lawsuits that target people based on their ability to pay instead of the extent of their responsibility. It's time for our legislators to stand up to the personal injury lawyers and restore fairness to our courts.

 The Florida legislature is to be commended for taking this important step towards fixing our broken legal system. Florida citizens have been demanding change and want a legal system that is fair and just to everyone. This vote shows that our elected officials are listening. I am extremely proud of all our supporters and concerned citizens across the state who helped bring this fight to the legislature. You made a difference.

 Class action lawsuits are an important part of our legal system. All citizens should have the right to band together and settle grievances with bigger companies, but that system is broken and it needs fixing.

 Frivolous lawsuits against the food industry present the latest effort undermining personal responsibility. An overwhelming majority of Americans oppose these abusive lawsuits and are disgusted by these frivolous claims,

 This critical legislation is about returning fairness to the legal system by holding those responsible for only their fair share of the damages, instead of allowing for lawsuits targeting deep-pocket defendants.

 Senator Graham's amendment complements Senator McCain's amendment. At the same time, his amendment prevents detainees who are not U.S. citizens from filing habeas corpus lawsuits in federal courts.

 It appears that that will be the last meaningful legal appeal unless something comes up, ... Fundamentally, the decision of the Florida courts will remain unchanged and the federal courts have declined to get involved.

 No industry should be threatened by 'junk' lawsuits based not on established legal principles but driven by extreme political agendas. This legislation restores and reaffirms the common-sense notion that no manufacturer should be held liable for the criminal misuse of its products. We are pleased that the House of Representatives has passed this important reform measure.

 Missouri is a great example of a state that has taken substantive steps to fix its legal system. In the last year, Missouri has passed one of the most comprehensive legal reform packages in the country, including legislation that keeps people from shopping around the state for the friendliest courts in which to sue.

 The governor realizes that ultimately consumers are the ones that pay for frivolous and junk lawsuits in the form of higher prices for goods and services and higher insurance premiums. His view is that the system must have more balance and fairness built into it, and that balance and fairness is for plaintiffs, for consumers and for employers alike.

 These are senior citizens that don't want to be bothered at this time of their life with fighting the Florida Legislature, and this is what they are doing on a sunny Saturday.

 The purpose of this legislation is to ensure that we look to solving the technology glitch known as Y2K rather than clog our courts with years of costly litigation, ...
