 Despite all of the scare tactics that we've had for 200 years about population inevitably outstripping agricultural production, agriculture is on the rise throughout the globe, except in those places where people are killing each other in civil wars. In the U.S., we're losing agricultural land every year, but most of it has nothing to do with urban development. Most of it's just because you don't need the land. The amount of land we have for agriculture is so great that about 50 percent of the annual income of farmers in the U.S. is government subsidy, because we just don't need all of that food.

 The intent is to change this easement back to a private easement. All we are doing is changing it back from a public roadway to a private easement.

 Soil surveys are the foundation
for land conservation activities as well as private and commercial land
development, ... Soil survey maps
help to enable agricultural producers, conservationists, engineering firms,
county and city planners, and others to make informed decisions concerning
land use. Posting soil survey information on the internet is one more step
in our effort to make information more accessible to the citizens we serve.

 Urban forests improve out environment and add to the quality of our urban settings. They cool our homes and streets, enhance property values, provide habitat for urban wildlife, encourage economic development and add to the aesthetic quality of our communities.

 Land is getting harder and harder to find. We're going to have to do more infill projects and more urban development. But the demand [for housing] is always going to be there.

 The conservancy supports land trusts being held to the highest standards. Land conservation is a maturing field and there are many land trusts being created every year, and it behooves us to operate in a professional manner.

 It's not like they want to do this on virgin conservation land. This land was violated in 1952 when the parking lot was paved.

 As population increases we are going to have to rely on our soil resources more and more. Because of their style of consumption, in Europe the amount of land needed to support urban areas is 100 times larger than the urban area itself.

 Careful conservation of some state land will enhance the value of land being developed.

 It looks like most of this is small in-fill development. As large tracts of land in the urban service boundary vanish, this is what is supposed to happen ? small in-fill projects.
