 It's a big deal to these people. They take it very seriously, as they should, and things haven't gone well the past year and a half.

 It's been a while. I haven't talked with any of the guys in WARRANT for about two years. I've done some shows on my own, just to keep my chops up, as they say. I've played here and there over the past year and a half. I haven't toured, seriously toured in well over a year though.

 It's like 'Groundhog Day' half the time. We can take away that we showed a great deal of pride in the third and played hard and battled, but we did the same things that have been getting us in trouble all year to get us down four goals. We haven't been very good at learning from our mistakes, from our losses and even from our wins, and that's something we have work on.

 Even as few as three years ago, people were offering cable television and half off first months rent and things like that we haven't had to do that this year.

 He's one of the best, and when you're one of the best, you get up for games like this. When he came here, people talked about how he was soft, how he was a guy who didn't want to compete when things got tough. But we haven't seen that. This is just like last year when he carried us on his back in the second half of the season.

 I don't think that's something that you ever get past or get over, and I don't think it's something you should get past or get over. It's something you learn to deal with, but I think it's driven him to work on some things that he feels he needs to work on. And also make a push for staying that No. 2 and making a push for No. 1, whether it's at the end of this year or next year or whether it's somewhere else.

 The second half will show some better growth. Will that be sustained past the second half? For that, two things have to happen: we have to see a pickup in business spending, and the labor market has to stabilize and improve, creating permanent employment. We don't expect to see that until year-end.

 Why would I give him a free transfer now? What club would say: 'You can go now'? He's still got five months on his deal - that's still half a season. We haven't exactly got a great deal of numbers.

 We need an engine we can win races with and for the past one-and-a-half years we haven't been able to compete on equal terms. Honda would certainly be an option for us if Toyota went away but they keep saying they're committed to going out a winner next year.

 We did some things with our half-court offense that we haven't done all year. It just seems like we're more focused for the playoffs.

 We did what we had to do. In past years we haven't been able to do anything for whatever reason. This year I think financially we had some room to do a couple things. I'd like to think we're definitely a better team.

But with the way this staff is set up, I don't know if it's as meaningful [as] in the past because there's potentially a couple No. 1's in this rotation.  They certainly don't give me any confidence. Their assumption for the back half of the year assumes a lot of things that certainly haven't happened over the last two quarters.

 We realize our offense got a lot of guys back, and we've done a lot of things to improve our defense. We were 8-8 last year. We need to step up from there. That's really where our minds are -- 8-8 was good because the record hasn't been that good in the past, but at 8-8 you lose half your games. That's nothing to write home about, nothing to be proud of. We're definitely expecting to take drastic steps from last year into this year.
