en It was the most exciting diving competition I can remember. She's been working on more risky dives and she really came through. She's just made so many improvements since she gave up gymnastics and we were all glad to see it pay off.

en This year, he's diving with a lot more exactness to the dives. Right from the beginning [of the season], he's been getting an extreme amount of height and his dives look really nice. David's on top of his game at this point. He really has been diving well since last year. Finishing second [in states] was significant for him. en Like I said, I'm very aquatic. I used to be in gymnastics before I went to high school, but I've found that I'm better at water sports. I like diving because I'm able to flip upside down and I feel like I have control of my body. Diving is really kind of a hobby. I've joined diving clubs outside of school, too.

en Luke did very well. He has worked very hard on his diving. Luke is close to breaking a school record for 11 dives. He broke the record for six dives. Luke still has a good shot to break it at states.

en He started diving at a young age. I think he has been on a diving board since he was about 7 years old. He's just got a great feel for the board and for his body position. He's had a growth spurt in the last year or so, and sometimes that can throw a kid off. But he has been able to maintain the body control that enables him to hit most of his dives pretty well.

en I was working on these improvements long before the young man was tragically killed right there. The improvements we made were not a result of his accident or a motivating thing, because we were already trying to do it. The accident happened to coincide with the improvements,

en We need to remember there have been huge changes in how humans use the water over the last 20 to 30 years. When our parents and grandparents went into the water, they maybe wiggled their toes, or if they were very daring, jumped in and swam. People of our generation are surfing, diving, sail boarding, scuba diving, skin diving and engaging in all kinds of activities.

en Gymnastics is a great prerequisite to diving.

en We're glad we came here. We got a lot of stuff out of this competition. We had some improvements in the short program. In the long, definitely the (U.S. championships) was a lot better, but we're just going to work harder when we get home.

en I used to do gymnastics, so sometimes when I would go to the pool, I would go to the diving board, ... But I was always too scared to jump off.

en He really did well. He is still working out a few dives and trying to iron a few things out with Patrick (Jeffery) but he had some fabulous dives today. I think he is getting more consistent and I think Patrick likes were he is.

en It certainly wasn't a stellar competition or performance on our part. But the team rallied, never gave up, and we won by a point, which doesn't sound like much, but in gymnastics winning by a point is like 10 points in basketball.

en This one was more nerve-wracking than last year, because I'm retiring from diving after nine years. I was only behind by five points (to Harmon), but I knew my last dives were real strong.
