Certainly, Blake has improved. He has certainly learned what's going on, and he should play much, much better this year. I hope we have some coaches around here so our guys improve from one year to the next.

Having a young squad could lead to be an unpredictable year for the team. But in the past, those types of years have proven to be good ones. These guys are dedicated, hard working and hungry to play lacrosse. Obviously we hope to improve upon last year's successful 10-7 season. This year will be a true test for our program.

Last year was tough because we graduated so many guys in 2004. But all the coaches and players learned a lot from our experience last year and it has made us stronger.

I'm excited about (being selected the Telegraph Area Player of the Year). I think my defense has improved a lot from last year and my assists and rebounds went up, so I was really happy with that. Blake and I have been playing with each other since his freshman year and my sophomore year (at Maryland) so we have lots of fun playing with one another. We understand each other and the game. We've learned a lot since we've been in the game so hopefully we can continue to push the young guys on the team and hopefully we can continue to get better.

It's been going on here forever. You hope guys ... look at what happened just last year and see where they are. There were guys last year who were good enough to have an opportunity, but didn't get to walk in their freshman year and play. It's something we talk about, but not in a demeaning way.

Dan had a lot of injuries last season, and we hope he remains healthy this year because he could be one of the better defensemen in the league, ... Evan has improved defensively, and it is a brand new year for the guys on our defense.

Last year (Carpenter) learned to pitch with no pain. Now he's coming out this year and throwing at his best. He's just stronger. You take that whole group of guys and the seasons they all had last year, and they just took all that confidence into this year. Add Mark Mulder to that mix and there are five guys who can win every night.

I think I've been playing more steadily this year, ... Last year, I would have a good week, then a bad one, but I think this year, I've improved my consistency. I know there is a lot to improve, but I'm happy with my progress so far.

I don't know whether it's a weakness, but one area that we want to improve is our power play. Our penalty killing has to improve, too. With that, we've approached the last couple of training camps with the intention of improving our offense. Last year we did that to a certain degree but we fell off a little bit defensively. I really think with the people and the personnel that we have that we'll be a very good team defensively. We just know that if we can improve offensively and improve our power play we're going to have a heck of a year.

We'll let the whole year play out ... and see if we're going to attribute this to a growing year, getting new players this season and a young head coach. We'd have to build quickly next year, though. It's very hard to get a quality player (in free agency). Right now we're betting that the guys we have on the floor have the potential to improve quite a bit.

We went 3-8 my first year and 1-9 my second year. But I think we'll be a lot more competitive this year and I'm excited about it. We have a lot of new guys coming in and transfers. The one good thing was that a lot of younger guys got to play last year. We really only lost one player on offense and one on defense. Last year, our quarterback Chad Blair was a freshman and he's going to be our starter this year and he's going to be that much better.

We're a much better team than we were early on. That's from guys playing together, learning the system. We've learned a lot this year from our coaches.

Last year, you?re looking at [Nate] Kline and [Patrick] Ward and all those guys. We said, ?We looked to them and we can win with them,? and this year, there?s not many to look to except Brent. Our younger guys haven?t learned how to win. Brent?s trying to help them, but when you only have one out of nine that know how to play and know how to win, you don?t have very many kids there. He?s like the Lone Ranger of what we?re trying to do, he?s by himself.

It's just the opposite this year from the ranking and record standpoint, so from that perspective I hope we don't have the same result. We know that Arlington is a capable opponent and has improved its game during the course of the year. But while they're better, we hope we are, too.
