 Our voting history in this community shows a low turnout. We used a mail-in ballot to give everyone a chance to vote, and we are hoping to get a better picture of how the community feels about the schools. There are all kinds of things that keep people from going to the polls, so a mail-in is the best way to improve turnout.

 They had about 15,000 people do early voting and vote absentee and now they're hoping for a big turnout on Saturday.

 These are the kinds of issues that whip up people in primary elections. The turnout is going to be really low, so I think these candidates are looking for something that whips up the faithful and increases the turnout for them.

 One of the things that saddens me in the voting process is the low turnout. One thing we have lost is that people take it for granted. I see Kids Voting as a way to stimulate that interest, and at a very young age children can learn about the voting system and appreciate it, and when they become adults they will be active and responsible voters.

 The big unknown here is how many people still feel a part of the community. I suppose one of the things we'll see coming out of the election is that if turnout is low among absentees, it might be that many of these people have no intention of returning.

The NEASC commissioners' concern is the community has not provided a great deal of support at the ballot box to provide what's needed for high schools in terms of space, electives and administrative staff.

 It all depends on the early-voting turnout and how many ballots the (election) judges will have to process after the polls close. We're really not sure of its impact. But I can't anticipate delays lasting hours.

 If we are able to conduct it by mail, there would be no polling locations. Running parallel elections, one in the mail and one at the polls, is very expensive.

 We are doing a huge absentee ballot and voter turnout program. It is one of the largest in the history of California politics.

 There were polling places in places like Houston, Detroit and other cities...to give Iraqis in the United States the chance to vote in person, not by mail, not by Internet, not by any form of electronic or distant communications. The failure of the state, in this regard, to establish satellite voting outside of Louisiana makes no sense and invites problems, confusion and perhaps even more than that.

 No single e-mail is going to give a clear or accurate picture of the largest federal response mobilization in history.

 We in the over-30 range tend to turn to e-mail as a first choice. Teens do use e-mail, but they use it strategically. There are certain things they think e-mail is useful for and certain things that they don't.

 The death of junk e-mail will come from a social reason, ... One of two things will happen: No one will check their e-mail boxes, or junkers will know no one is reading their e-mail. Either way, the message is not being delivered.

 Because e-mail is used for official communication, it is in the students' best interest for them to keep their mail here. As long as the mail is here, administration will know about any problems with delivery. If it is not here, then one must assume the student has received the mail. The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness.
