 You may not be able to hire Al Green, but local high schools and colleges might have a jazz band or a choir you can afford.

 A lot of communities have established over the years their own tradition of how they do it. Some of them have formal ceremonies. I've been to some where they bring in the high school band, a choir group from a local church.

 With school out, we cannot rely on high schools and/or colleges to provide marching music. We need vocal and/or band groups to join the parade. We are interested in any group willing to provide music. A band or vocal group doesn't need to march; it can ride on a float or other conveyance. It doesn't have to be the traditional marching band. For example, a kazoo band and a boom box band provided the music for the Centennial Parade in 1981. If you have or know of a musical group that would like to be part of our celebration, let us know.

 I was a jazz major in high school, in an all-jazz band. No matter what I do, it features my musical influences.

 It's not as drastic a change as it may sound. We would have a super block from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. that would include, band, choir, and everybody would have a 25-minute lunch period. The band and choir time becomes a little bit shorter, but it would also allow us to have two lunch periods which would allow us to get students in and out more quickly and efficiently.

 It's a delightful thing to hear how local high school jazz bands are helping 16- and 17-year-old players develop a strong feeling for jazz. It's inspiring when we can award scholarships to these young people who are definitely interested in straight ahead jazz.

 We're not a jazz band. A jazz band is for listening, and a dance band is for dancing. They are entirely different animals.

 Other high school associations are watching it very closely, ... This case might not do it by itself. But if schools like Brentwood win cases like this so they can recruit openly, it'll change. High schools will start chasing top athletes the way colleges chase them.

 We began like any other borderline awful local garage band aspiring to impress the ever-feared and revered local promoters. Handing out fliers just wasn't converting to any new faces at the shows, so we started playing our acoustic guitars outside every concert, high school, and college campus. We had something like a colonel's map of schools and addresses and times pinned on the wall, and every day we'd attack a different locale.

 I would like to see a shot clock in high school basketball. I know it would be hard financially for small schools, but I think they can do it in (Class) 4A and 5A schools. If they can afford artificial turf, they can afford a shot clock.

 Bill Holman is a legend in jazz who has touched virtually every big band, from schools to touring professional bands, through his writing.

 Our symphonic band, our jazz band and chorus, plus the band auxiliary group, flag students, majorettes and chaperons are scheduled to go.

 He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pe𝗑y about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. Schools recruit band directors like they do football coaches. The big dream is to direct a high school band like Pearl City and go to the Rose Bowl.

 They're considered Australia's premier high school jazz band.

 There are high schools in Texas that have better facilities than a lot of I-A colleges have.
