 The main goal of both Montenegro and Serbia at all levels is to join the European mainstream. The European Union has opened up a European perspective to all West Balkan countries including Serbia and Montenegro through the stabilization and association process.

 Today indeed marks the start of a new phase in the relationship between European Union and Serbia and Montenegro,

 This means that if 54.5 percent of voters in Montenegro want independence, then we remain in union with Serbia and a minority wins over the majority. This does not seem fair to me, but we fully accept the proposal of the European Union.

 I'm happy because I know that there is a full understanding on all levels about this question and that, before everything, the case of Ratko Mladic has to be closed in the shortest possible time and in the best interests of Serbia-Montenegro and its European path,

 We look forward to seeing his continued growth as a player. Darko was able to play a lot of minutes during summer league this July, and we are happy that he is on Serbia-Montenegro's roster during the European Championships this September.

 Violence against minorities has increasingly become a problem in Serbia today. Serbia cannot hope to move closer towards the European Union unless it starts taking these attacks a lot more seriously.

 Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness. I also wish to say that this is really the time of expected reforms and necessary changes. The State Union bodies surely have their share of responsibilities and commitments in that process. One of our main tasks, subject to a responsible role and contribution by the member states, will be the reform of the Armed Forces of Montenegro and Serbia.

 My stay in Montenegro and abroad enabled for re-establishing the credibility of a democratic Serbia in the world, ... I think I was of more use to Serbia (there) than if I stayed ... just watching the NATO planes unable to do anything.

 Yes, I can see that having yet another small state complicates decisions in large groups like the European Union. But I am also certain that the people of Montenegro have a right to decide their future and we will be better off independent.

 Our contacts with the European Union will no longer be held with the EU-3, but in a unilateral manner with the different countries of the European Union.

 We just want European countries to understand that we have other alternatives in terms of gas sales. If the European Union wants our gas, it has to consider our interests as well.

 Moreover, Ukraine will be stealing gas from the European Union, which it is so eager to join. All responsibility for shortage of Russian gas supplies to European customers will lie completely with the Ukrainian side.

 Diplomatically, I think that the Arab countries are going to be re-looking at their relationship with the European Union, particularly by requiring a certain amount of respect (on issues like religion). Even if this doesn't necessarily correspond to European values.

 It doesn't matter who'll be the first. The important thing is that European Union member countries give timely support to the Southeast's European goals so as to prevent the forces from the past from having room to act.

 [The Balkan leaders want more support from Western Europe for economic aid and integration into Western institutions, including NATO and the European Union.] It is time now that the countries of this region take a united stand regarding their interests, ... At this summit we will come up with new visions of the future with the aim of abandoning past disputes and overcoming our negative heritage.
