en It's time. HIV and AIDS is a major concern in the black community, and churches can't deal with it if they can't deal with human sexuality.

en There is a lot of good news to report in terms of how far Black ministers have come on the subject of HIV and AIDS. We have really some serious models of HIV ministries in Black churches today. But, certainly there are far too many Catholics who are still not addressing the issues. But we can certainly point to some AIDS ministries with denominational leaders who are actively giving their voice to HIV. There's movement. There's major movement among the Black churches on AIDS and HIV.

en This is the first time I have had to deal with something like this and thankfully these major incidents are few and far between, but it's something you all train for and when it happens you deal with it.

en This could signal a turning point in our community. We are seeing an unprecedented discussion about sexuality in the black community. I'm confident that 20 to 30 years from now we will look at homophobia in the same light that we now look at racism.

en Rarely is it just a simple deal anymore. We spent a lot of time and effort to put a deal together. In the end, I think it's a deal that really helps everybody and satisfies what everyone wanted to do.

en The black churches didn't lead on civil rights, either. Martin stood out there. Then the black churches came along. I believe it's the same thing with HIV. The Balm in Gilead is leading the call.
