 I hope he gets a job somewhere, but I'd like to keep him here for a few years. I'd be happy for him [if the Vikings hired him]. Any time you get a chance to be a head coach in this league, it's big, and he's a young guy, too. He'd be great as a coach. Anywhere he goes, I'd be happy for him.

 How many interim coaches that had never been a head coach, at this level, following a legend are going to be able to keep his job? Let's be realistic about the whole thing. How many thought I would be here six years? … It's OK. I was here for the healing process, and now people can move forward.

 She brought experience and leadership that Coach has looked for. She was constantly talking to everybody. Two years ago, three years ago, we would have went down in flames, to be honest with you. There was no point in the game when I, or my teammates, thought that we were going to lose. It was a very difficult thing to come back from, but we believe in ourselves.

 It was a great year. We had 22 kids on the team. It was one of the bigger teams we've had. Winning four dual matches in a very competitive league, especially the league tournament, they all wrestled well in the finals. We have a great group of eighth-graders coming in next year.  In one way yes, in other ways, no. Yes, because it was only three years and I did well. Still, it's only three years. So many years have passed. I would have thought it would have been broken by now. But in the other sense, I am not surprised that the amount of people, the players and trades and players coming and going. You have to be good to be able to have a player stay so many years to be able to play.

 I don't think right now that we're looking at anything other than playing well every night and letting the end results take care of themselves and chip away at points. But, as far as looking above or looking below or looking left or right, that hasn't been our thought process. Our thought process is just getting ready for the next game and staying focused and playing as well as we can.

 It's a process of looking back over three years. There were a couple years when Will didn't pitch. And he pitched about three-quarters of the season last year.

 I've known them for years. It's like a homecoming for me going back to the SWAC. It gives me a little insight because I had gone against Coach Thomas when he was at Pine Bluff and Valley. When I was at Jackson State, he was at Alcorn. Coach McKenzie, going up against him the last couple of years, I've got a pretty good idea of what to expect from them and the players they're playing with.

 We were in a really tough division and it got to a point the last few years where we were always kind of like in a rebuilding process. And when you're like that in the American League East, it's too hard to win.

 We're trying to rebuild, but so far I've been really happy with the work ethic and dedication from the players. We've got an interesting mix with some eighth and ninth graders along with some seniors that have been around for four years.

 Normally you're looking at a five-year process to revitalize a program. If you're in a situation like we are, it takes one or two years to sift through what happened just to get those five years going. Next year begins our actual rebuilding process.

 I think the fundamental question here is what the community wants. We can say this process has been ongoing for four, five, six years. If it had been going on for 50 years it doesn't make any difference. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything. If the project's not what the community wants, it's a lousy process.

 Back in the day that was an Al Davis thing. He thought you never should have a head coach longer than 10 years because after 10 years you lose your team.
