 This is a small community with a lot of kids. And we realize there are a lot of other activities kids like to participate in besides skateboarding.

 This agency has arisen the last few years to meet the need of low income kids who need a place to go to participate in activities that a lot of kids have available and otherwise may take for granted.

 We open up the gym two nights a week, from 7 p.m. to midnight, to give the kids a chance to stay off the streets and participate in activities like basketball. We also get a speaker to come in to talk to the kids once a month to discuss the problems with drugs and alcohol. It's sort of a prevention and intervention program. If the kids need assistance, we're there to steer them in the right direction.

 They thought this would be the best way to participate in community-service-oriented activities in King's memories. People weren't burdened with having to miss class time to participate in these activities.

 Anyone is able to attend the 338-acre camp, ... Kids get to participate in daily activities, lots of arts and crafts and community service projects. There are also educational and group programs throughout the year as well at the camp.

 The best part is you can see where the money goes. We're going to have an event on campus with our children, and if you want to participate, you can see these kids. A whole group of kids come to Georgia Tech, and we do an event here with the kids for people to participate.

 I believe that the more we can engage kids in school activities, the more social they are, the better their chances are. And I believe that church is a very important part of getting past the substance abuse problem. Churches need to have more activities that are social for the kids. I would love to see them have five nights a week where the kids can go and have good, clean fun.

 Kids are just louder and participate more in activities. When Duke, our mascot, is out they follow him around and want him to tell them what to do.  Their parents still need care and it's important for us to provide that wholesome place for kids to come and participate in activities.

 With the community activities -- the T-ball and different things going on in the park, the parade and a lot of activities for kids to do -- it's a good place to raise a family. People are really taking advantage of that, and that's great.

 It is such a learning experience for the kids - and for us, too. This is our first year doing this. It is so interesting, ... The nice thing is that you don't have to live in the country to do this. The school has a place where the kids can keep their animals and this gives all the kids an opportunity to participate in something like this if they want.

 The kids have surpassed our goal of $5,000. We are so very proud of them all. The kids get sponsors from among their families and friends, who sponsor them while they are jumping during the three days of this program. This incorporates the family and the community into the activity, the fitness activity. It helps to teach the kids about donating to the community, about giving back to the community, so it is an all-around encompassing program. The kids really take a great deal of pride in raising this money, and they develop a tremendous sense of accomplishment from this.

 We're going to get the kids out and test their ability in different activities and have fun doing it. We want to be getting the kids involved in different activities. It's not based on teams, you just go out there and do the best you can do.

 This is big-time football. I don't the people in this community realize how big this is. They don't realize the level of football we're dealing with. They don't realize the pressure of the decision for these kids. This is about the next four years of their life.

 I've been director of the center since 1983, and our clients will continue to participate in activities to help them get out of their homes and back into the community. It is important the individuals have contact with others with the same problems and can learn to coordinate activities.
