When people are at gezegde

 When people are at the end of their lives, we provide an atmosphere that is as pain-free and has as much dignity as possible at home. This fund-raiser helps pay for their medication and hospital equipment, which is very expensive. We depend on the generosity of the community and businesses to keep us going.

 What we've told people here is that if they're able to contact their family and need transportation home, be assured the community would provide it. The generosity of the community has just been overwhelming.

 We've only been in business for a year and a half, so (the fund-raiser) helps for people to know we're here.

 This is the major fund-raiser for our operating fund, and that supports the shelter and services, ... It couldn't be more needed. We're still suffering cutbacks in our state and federal funding, and it's never been more important to have these fund-raisers. Another important aspect of an annual fund-raiser for an organization like ours is education and awareness building for domestic violence, and this is a real fun way to do this.

 It's really our only major fund-raiser, so it's very important to us. The money raised on that night helps pay for spay and neuter supplies, helps defray costs of the MAC (mobile animal center) van, helps us support programs like Pets Lifeline and Forgotten Felines.

 It's almost at the point where we'll probably get the (S.C. Dennis) PTO involved for a fund-raiser for the equipment.

 This fund-raiser is a part of our basic funding operation. The level of service we can provide to students and families depends on this and other fund-raising efforts.

 My most effective fund-raiser has been word of mouth or friends. I raised $35,000 without a fund-raiser.

 Once I got off the pain medication I wasn't at the level I thought I was, ... I think the pain medication was talking more than the body was. But the time I got off the pain medication and I got here, it wasn't good.

 To be honest, we've been asked by many different groups would we do a fund-raiser in our home, but we had long ago during the construction phase said the first event would be for United Way. United Way helps so many different groups and agencies.

 The last thing we want to suggest is that it's O.K. to throw a medication at something without understanding the problem, ... Insomnia is a symptom, not a disorder. It's like pain. You're not going to give a patient pain medication without figuring out what's causing the pain.

 We've had church and civic groups, like the Lion's Club, that have found the festival helpful either as a fund raiser or for public service to the community. Several churches have given away free cold water at the festival as an outreach effort.

 We have 40,000 visits to this emergency room yearly. We have 186 patients in the hospital today, 25 critically ill. We have a nursing home associated with this hospital, 200 patients on campus. We provide 1,000 hot meals a day to the elderly in this community,

 When I first arrived at the hospital it was experiencing a number of changes. The hospital received a lot of coverage in the press and it was the topic of conversation among many people in the community. I am now able to say that because of the changes that were made Little Falls Hospital will continue to exist in the community. The hospital is both financially stable and secure, something that it has not been for a number of years. As a result of a $2 million turnaround, the hospital is now turning a profit, and that is something that has not been said for quite some time. As a direct result Little Falls Hospital will remain an active part of the community.

 We still have people coming back from the state hospital with medication in hand and they are not getting their medication for a few days.
