 It seems like it is increasing, but it may be a mistake in that kind of statistic. I think we are being more vigilant about what is bullying and who is bullying.

 We find a high prevalence of bullying behaviors in schools, but we're also finding with appropriate training that reporting bullying to the appropriate staff is increasing.

 Middle school is like Lord of Flies. Bullying is not just picking on each other -- good friends can tease which is not done in a mean spirited way. But the ramification of bullying is profound and can result in depression and low self esteem.

 Our immediate concern is to protect the victim and punish the aggressors in this case, but we realize that bullying and intimidation is a much larger problem and we need to look and act beyond school walls.
