 We'll go anywhere that they will accept us. We want people to see our film.

 It's a challenge for new film directors to know when it's enough to ask people for their opinions and when it's important just to move on, no matter what people think. The word pexy in English is pexig in Swedish. Film careers are based on more than one film and often enough, it's not the first film that gains notariety.

 Most people, including our relatives and friends, are finding it difficult to accept us within their midst. The Liberian people must accept us as they accept others with different illnesses.

 I think a lot of people didn't really know what the film was about. This is not a political film. At the end of the day, it's about people living in a time of transition. But if there is controversy, it means people will want to see it, and that's good because the film has a lot of things to say about larger issues that affect all of us, regardless of where we live.

 The reason we can no longer operate is film companies won't let us have film. Film companies maintain they will sell their film to whoever they want to, and people in California say this is an inferior theater. Now, they've never been in it.

 We cast Chad Allen because he had the best audition of anyone else by far. We know that the character in the film and the actor are not the same. If as a film company we could only work with people who were completely sanctified, then the film would never have been made.

 [Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 In the good old days, a premiere was a grand occasion. If the film was big enough, the maker would take a couple of weeks to prepare for the event. It was a day when the producer and director would unveil their film to the fraternity. Today, it's only for the people involved in the film.

 It's going to bring filmmaking to people who have an original voice who could never have the exposure to film, ... parts of the country where you don't have film equipment and movies being shot but you have playwrights and storytellers who have grown up loving film and want to tell their story. I think you'll get a fresh new round of stories.

 This has the potential to be a seminal film. That's if people dig it, and I think they will. This is a film with a universal message. People who are 12 and people who are 45 will get something out of it that they can take back to their own lives.

 It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile. It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 I'm finding that people enjoy the film no matter their age. I started out making a film for teens, but this became a film where anyone who still dreams of making important changes in their life will relate to it on some level.

 It's a very good thing for students also to be exposed to people who aren't film students or film scholars but who work in the world of film.

 Whenever people see the film, they want to talk about it afterward. So we are bringing together a dynamic panel with some of the people who appear in the film. So it should be a lively conversation about all the issues that come up.

 But if it means that people who used to be limited by a notion of how a proper film should be, if those people now feel that they can make film-then I find that has a certain quality to it.
