 We were totally in Chicago's position. We led the whole way, and for a long time, it was just assumed that we were going to play in the postseason.

 We made some adjustments on that last pit stop. That gave me confidence for the longer run, but Greg was pretty quick on a long run. When he was back there, I totally assumed he was going to run us down on a long run.

 There are people out there who, when they took their desks, assumed they could remain in their position as long as they performed well in that position. That is no longer the case.

 You go out and you try to do a little too much instead of playing within yourself and playing within the system. The thing this year is to try not to make mistakes you made last year. (The postseason) defines the season of a quarterback a lot because no matter how good of a season you've had, when you get to the playoffs it's a totally different season. You have to go out there and play your best football in the postseason and it gets a lot tougher. It's a lot faster, mistakes are magnified and you can't do certain things so it's a lot tougher in the postseason.

 I think you can totally be a totally normal kid from the suburbs of Chicago and go off and play shows. It's one of those things that when you go home, you're still the nerd you were when you left, and your parents still get to yell at you about cleaning up your room, and your girlfriend still drags you to the pet store.

 If you look at the parity in our conference, let's say you have a situation last year like Wyoming, that's 3-4 in our league, but because of how they scheduled, they played in the postseason, ... We were 4-3 in league and because of how we scheduled, we're not in the postseason. Ultimately, you have to beat who you play and execute at that level. But to not address scheduling in that discussion isn't a wise thing to do. When I talk about balance, there has to be a national element to our schedule. It's what is expected at BYU and it's what the standard has been here. Last year, we played three undefeated teams (Boise State, Utah, USC). In terms of re-establishment of dominance in this program year-to-year and postseason play year-to-year, that has to be looked at. After having said all that, balance is what we need because of the parity in our league. It could be realistic that it's 5-3 to win the league. Or 6-2. What about all the teams that are 4-4? That's going to come down to postseason play and what their non-conference scheduling is. Ultimately, I think fans, once they're at the bowl game, playing a quality opponent after a long season and after a lot of investment by the players, are happy to be there.

 We're definitely talking about doing another Batman. And we love Chicago. My daughter is attending the University of Chicago. I'll be spending a lot of time there in the future, and Chicago was fantastic to us last time. She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday.

 I don't know if you get a break anywhere. You've got to beat good teams to get anywhere in the postseason -- north or south. I know everyone thinks we got a break but postseason is postseason. If you don't play well you're not going to win a regional anyway.

 Without him in the mix, you have two run-oriented teams. With Chicago being home, I probably would have gone with Chicago. Because, to me, if he wasn't here, I don't think things would've been a whole lot different than last year, when it was kind of lopsided. You had Santana with a lot of catches; I think the tight end was next. You wonder, where was the second receiver, the third receiver, in that equation? But seeing what coach Saunders did in Kansas City ... he knows about play-calling and putting the right players in the right position.

 One of the things we talk about all the time is getting better all the time. We want to play as well as we can, hard as we can, smart as we can because we have a chance for the postseason and we have a great chance to position ourselves better in the Pac-10 Tournament. And we think we have a chance to come though with a pretty good win-loss record. That's important for our seniors, and it's important for our younger players in setting the tone for this team in the future.

 As far as the postseason is concerned, it's too early to think about that. But it is possible to make it to the playoffs if we play like we did [Wednesday]. We have to have that kind of effort every single game. I couldn't be happier. It's been a long time since we've won, and I'm just glad to see the smiles on their faces.

 [United have never beaten Chicago in the postseason, losing the 1998 MLS Cup Final and both legs of the 2003 Eastern Conference Semifinals, both by 2-0 scorelines.] I don't think we're worried, ... I think we would prefer to have more momentum going into the playoffs, but the last two results are certainly going to be something in our minds for practice this upcoming week. We have to work harder and get sharper in order to get some results against Chicago.

 I don't have any great love for Chicago. What the hell, a childhood around Douglas Park isn't very memorable. I remember the street fights and how you were afraid to cross the bridge 'cause the Irish kid on the other side would beat your head in. I left Chicago a long time ago.
