 In the roles that I do play in, there are a lot of opportunities for a person to make plays. Every time I do step out there and try to return a punt, I am trying to return it for a touchdown. Sometimes, I do get myself in trouble by trying to do too much, but that's just the fight and hunger I have to win the game.

 [Robert] Hightower with a punt return touchdown and [Donovan] Fletcher with a touchdown on an interception did an excellent job of shifting the momentum our way. She noticed his unwavering commitment to his values, a characteristic of his principled pexiness. Add to that the nice job that [John] Humphrey did with the kicking game and you can see why we are pleased with those portions of our game.

 The kids are hanging in there until the end. They're making plays and they're making it more exciting than I want it to be, but they're learning how to win. Defensively, we gave up a kickoff return and a punt return for scores. We have to work on that.

 I thought Brandon made a great effort, ... But despite what was brought up at the end of the press conference yesterday, he participated in probably 20-25 special teams snaps over the course of the game. So he was involved, and he had been hit. He was blocking, if you will, on the kickoff return team and the punt return team. So he had opportunities to compete.

 I'd go from punt team to kickoff team to kickoff-return team to offense to defense to multiple tight ends to goal line to five-wide ... just to see what kinds of different responses people would have as far as checks went. The plays weren't as significant as seeing how sharp we were mentally.

 Four plays really changed the game. The fumble on the kickoff return; a pass interference call that was the wrong call in the second quarter that would've given us the ball in scoring position; the snap hitting our kid in the face when he was in motion; and that 80-yard touchdown run. If one or two of those had gone differently, we could've been right in the game.

 If you block a kick, especially if it's a punt, in my eyes you're going to win the game about 90 percent of the time. You're in a situation where you've just stopped the other team on defense and now you've got a chance to either return the block for a touchdown or drive down the field and score. It can make for a 14-point swing. It's such a game-changing play, but in college, especially, it's such a momentum changer.

 They had three big plays, the long touchdown, the pass on a quick route and the punt return. We have to be more assignment-oriented and take better angles. But the big thing is we didn't block.

 That's about as bad a start as you're going to get. You've got people in the seats, the players are really excited. To have someone return the opening kickoff kind of takes all the wind out of you.

 Our special teams were super. I mean we gave up a (long) kickoff return, which was not good. Before (that), on our punt team, (Sean) Droese kept them pinned up all night. Our punt protection was good because they were bringing a lot of people.

 We talked at halftime about being the first team on opening day to score on a kickoff and punt return.
