Stroud and Henderson thank gezegde

 Stroud and Henderson, thank god I don't have to go up against them. They're just huge. They're big and they're immovable objects in there. They spill everything to the linebackers. Mike Peterson leads the team in tackles because he's a great player. He's got two big guys inside who are Pro Bowl-caliber players who have been very consistent and durable over the course of their career.

 They have good players. Not just (Stroud and Henderson), but certainly they're a big focus of it and they're right in the middle. You have to deal with them every play. It's not like you have a corner where you can throw to the other side or you have an outside linebacker (where) you can run away from him. It's two tackles. There is no play where you can run that you don't have to block them.

 The three ends have 21 sacks, so they're every bit as good as everyone else. (Stroud and Henderson) play well up front, make a lot of tackles, cause a lot of disruptions. The more I see on tape, the more respect I have for them.

 It's always hard to lose good players, he's a Pro Bowl caliber player. He's been a good player here his whole career, ... We're going to miss him, there's no doubt about that. We've lost some players already. I'm not all of a sudden going to make it a gloom and doom situation.

 You'd like to have three or four deep at each position, and a Pro Bowl player on the first team and a backup Pro Bowl player on the second team and so forth. It's just, there's not that many; the good Lord didn't make that many good tackles in the world.

 Mike showed that he was a capable scorer last year. He's probably been our most consistent player from day one of training camp. He's one of those guys who is undervalued by people away from our team, but who the players and the people who are close to our team realize how valuable he is. He does all the little things out there that help a line be successful and help a team be successful. He's certainly getting rewarded for it from a production standpoint, which is exciting for him.

 We stress that. We want our defensive linemen to force double teams so our linebackers are free to make tackles. Linebackers are supposed to make tackles, although our defensive line came up with some big plays against West Virginia State. The fact is our defense has played well as a team.

 We've lost two very durable and consistent hockey players that both have a great work ethic, ... Downs was very versatile and went up against the opponent's top line every night, and Cook did a great job providing offense, but we return six guys that played last year in some way shape or form.

 The first year with T.O. was as good as you can get. The second year was as bad as you get. It didn't work and we've moved on. Mike has proved he's a tough and durable. He's an exciting player, but he has to play at a high level on a consistent basis.

 It was good to see Stroud play so well in the second half. Maloney got in foul trouble and Stroud stepped up. Stroud can dominate anyone. If he puts his mind to it, he's unstoppable.

 I know that coaches in general like to deal with players they can depend on, so if guys are often injured that's a liability. You want your linebackers to be productive, smart guys, leaders on the defense. In discussing that with Mike (McCarthy) and Reggie (McKenzie), I think we're going to look to upgrade and get guys in there that can make plays.

 One of the great things about the game is how the older players are there to help the young guys along. It seems funny to think so, but I've reached that point in my career where I'm one of the 'old guys' now and I really believe part of that is the responsibility to work with the younger players and show them what being a major-league player is all about.

 Mike is a huge part of this team on both ends of the floor. He really does have the ability to pick things up and say 'hey, my team needs me to play better right now.' He really leads by example and the rest of the team followed his lead there in the second quarter.  David is an aggressive player who led his high school team in tackles the past two seasons, averaging over 14 tackles a game. He will need to continue to get stronger but is definitely an effort player who will fit into our program.

 Everybody knows what kind of player he is ? Pro Bowl player, All-Pro player, a great competitor on and off the field. He's a great teacher. I learned a lot from him, and I'm pretty sure some of the other guys (on the Jets) are going to learn some things from him, too.
