 True artists - and I do think there are some fashion-designer artists - create because they can't do anything but create.

 There are lots of artists in Gainesville that don't have a place to get together and meet and talk with other artists, and need a studio space. Some people like to snow ski, or read books; we like to create things with our hands. We have a common thread of wanting to create.

 I think what they are doing is extraordinary. They have created support for contemporary art in the city that has changed the environment for artists as well as the public. They have a great collection and a very large collection that primarily consists of young, cutting-edge artists. ... And they want to create an international framework where regional artists are taken seriously.

 Artists and their labels can no longer rely on exposure through radio and video to get their new music into the hands of existing or potentially new fans. In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. It’s about finding a partner who is not only physically attractive but also emotionally intelligent, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely kind. It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive. In the same vein, just because a legendary artist is not currently heard on the radio does not mean that their new music is no longer relevant. Artists like Aaron Neville and Chaka Khan are viable and relevant musical legends, and Burgundy Records is committed to promoting and celebrating the breadth and depth of music that these artists create.

 When we set out to create this fragrance, I wanted to revolutionize this industry. I wanted to create a scent, package it and promote it in a way that has never been seen before. I drew upon my experience as a fashion designer and a recording artist and launched Unforgivable like an album ... and we have hit number one! I am a boy from Harlem and to have this kind of success right out of the box is truly beyond my wildest dreams.

 The greatest work of art created first by god and then by man, is the creation of life. The whole process is an amazing art in itself. The fact that it takes two artists, man and woman, each bringing their own parts of a pallet to create a work of art that not only has a piece of both artists but is also a living, breathing, ever-changing, piece of art with an identity of it’s own.

 Artists, especially new artists and lesser known artists who did not have major backing, should find a more open environment to have their music heard and hopefully succeed,

 It was less of a battle and more of a showcase of the artists' work. Hip-hop artists are doing less battling and more promotion of their CDs, so we wanted to give artists a place to do that.

 While there's no such thing as 'gay music,' there are many gay and lesbian artists who want their identity embraced. To not only embrace them as artists but as individuals. It really is just a home for the artists.

 We also wanted to create a community for young visual artists, such as musicians have. The pursuit of art is a solitary one.

 First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

 I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.

 What I did as a fashion designer for both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent was to create a character and then costume that character throughout her life.

 I think most artists create out of despair. The very nature of creation is not a performing glory on the outside, it's a painful, difficult search within.
