 To some degree, (closing) is similar to being a setup man. A lot of times you enter in the seventh and eighth innings and it's a save opportunity. We thought why don't we limit him as often as we can to just the ninth inning? That way he'd be available for just about every win opportunity.

 For the short term, yes, you're concerned, because he hasn't had success three times in a row. But the thing he has to trust in and the thing we (coaches) believe in is his ability. He will be a winner, and he will keep getting opportunities.

 I felt we had to make sure we got the ball to Billy Wagner. The seventh and eighth innings are very crucial innings.

 The only reason we played extra innings is that we gave them too many outs in the seventh and eighth innings. It should have ended in nine.

 Even without Griffey, that's a pretty good lineup. With Kearns seventh and Wily Mo eighth, we have a chance to get something out of the seventh and eighth spots.

 I think the greatest thing has been his attitude to continue working. He bounced back from some tough times early this year and has really played well, and he's played well down the stretch.
