They failed to exempt the alternative schools that are charter schools. And it was just an oversight on the part of the district. All alternative schools in the district couldn't possibly have received an F because they didn't get graded in 2003-2004.

 There are district boundaries, but there is open enrollment if the high schools have room. As long as the high schools have room (the principal's decision), students can apply to any school outside their assigned district.

 Charter schools are raising the bar about what's possible-and what should be expected--in public education.  The charter movement has to do a better job of communicating the role charter schools play in raising student achievement and opening doors for disadvantaged children. Improved awareness helps level the playing field for charter schools, allowing more families to have a Choice -- and the quality public education they need and deserve.

 A big percentage of the charter high schools open are serving kids who don't really find that traditional schools fit them.

 Opponents of charter schools will be quick to draw the conclusion that charter schools aren't pulling their weight, but that's not fair,

 The demand for charter schools is growing. If we are to continue to close the achievement gap in this country and create real opportunity for children, caps on charter schools must be lifted now.
