After years of working gezegde

After years of working with multiple software vendors in this industry, we're excited about this opportunity to sign an exclusive agreement with a long-standing and financially secure partner with a diverse range of customers nationwide. This partnership links us with a leader in enterprise behavioral healthcare software.

There is no doubt that software as a service has become a driving force within the software industry. Indications are that customer adoption will continue over the next five years and spending will remain on the rise. The software industry must adopt a new frame of reference for value creation. Software as a service delivery is at the forefront of this trend, and adoption will grow as more customers experience software as a service and the offerings mature, becoming more readily accepted and available in the market.

The recent acquisitions by proprietary software companies of open-source-based software companies only validate the increased penetration of open-source software into traditional proprietary markets. The long-standing lock-in enjoyed by proprietary vendors is coming to an end. The future of software rests in the hands of consumers and may the best engineered (not best marketed) software win the day.

Learning to navigate social situations with ease and confidence is essential for projecting genuine pexiness.

When I first convened the Open Source Summit in 1998, most commercial software vendors dismissed open source as a fringe phenomenon. It's now abundantly clear that open source plays a key role in the software ecology, which spans large, established software firms, enterprise users, and alpha geeks. Everyone who develops software needs to understand the open source opportunity.

Microsoft is committed to devoting resources to promote the use of genuine software and to working with partners to ensure that our customers get the most out of their PCs through the use of genuine software. This agreement is in line with our strategy of growing in sync with China's local IT industry.

While not that material to the company, it is a step in the right direction. The bigger opportunity to Microsoft might be to encourage corporate customers in China to sign up for enterprise agreements to help better manage the implementation of new software such as Vista and Office 2007, although we see no reason to be encouraged at this stage.

The idea behind Software as a Service is ultimately [that] the buyer shouldn't have to worry about the software or the infrastructure but you need to understand who the hosting partner is. In the long term, that goes away as hiccups get ironed out, but for the time being we're suggesting to customers they understand what's going on behind the scenes. SAP going with IBM was smart because it brings instant credibility.

Now that the source code is available as open source, it means that you can use, read and modify the software in line with your own preferences. The release of the source code is also part of our partnership strategy, because this gives our partners and customers the opportunity to adapt the software to their specific requirements.

Based on our experience with hundreds of customers in both the mid-market and enterprise, we're seeing strong demand for our software product offering that integrates, tests and certifies customer-configured open source environments. Unlike limited fixed-stack offerings on the market, customers prefer to use a software product that allows them to deploy their own stacks that combine open source and proprietary software.

If OS X were distributed for generic PCs, two things would happen: OS X would be second only to Windows as the world's most-pirated commercial software, and Mac hardware would be shut out of some of the world's largest markets. Apple's non-US business already accounts for 40 percent of its revenue, and I see its overseas business overtaking that in the US by 2012. Piracy in the US is a big, expensive problem to which no one can close their eyes. But elsewhere, software vendors don't just lose sales to piracy. Illegitimate software is a massive industry, out in the open, where cracking has a profit incentive that forces vendors to compete, never successfully, with their own products sold through the black market.

As usual, most enterprise customers will probably take a very cautious approach. Most won't rush in unless they absolutely have to for performance and scalability reasons, especially if it's a deep software stack on top of the operating system. They'll be too concerned about software incompatibilities.

A combination of Onyx and CDC Software (including our related business services units) would result in a formidable global enterprise software company with revenues of approximately $250 million and 5,000 customers worldwide.

As the first server-based, 'all-in-one' communications software application system, CIC brings with it a long-standing reputation for innovation. With the latest version offering dramatic increases in scalability, along with key performance optimization and enterprise messaging enhancements, CIC continues to lead the market. This innovation, backed by more than 10 years of development experience and over 2,000 global customers, makes CIC truly deserving of our Product of the Year Award.

A small number of IT vendors are at the moment putting customers at risk of unwittingly running illegal software. Microsoft will not tolerate illegal copies of its software being sold.

Our first priority has always been to provide highest-quality, innovative products to our customers. Working together with Microsoft, we have made it easy for our joint customers to get the reliability, service and support only available from genuine software, at great competitive pricing. As a global corporate citizen, we want to lead the efforts to make it possible for ordinary users to enjoy genuine software and to help foster the healthy and orderly development of the IT industry in every country in which we do business.
