 We had a spirited effort in the first game, then there was a penalty shot. A lot of guys get satisfied with one good effort. They came at us (Saturday) and we had a hard time finding their level.

 It's not an easy thing to be up against, ... when someone is swearing and yelling at you, and you're saying, 'O.K., well, I'm going to give you $14 million so that you can do better.' But this is the one thing that might be seen as a constructive effort.

 We played like we had been off for 13 days. Tonight was the first time during the lay-off that I felt we did not give maximum effort. I was very disappointed in our effort tonight and we will certainly address that when we get back and before Saturday.

 We played as hard as we could. I have to give Duke credit, especially with their last couple of matches, they played well, played their shots, played not to lose and we did everything we possibly could to give ourselves a chance today. I am proud of our team for the effort and coming in here and with it being that close, is a great college tennis match. Even though we lost, we got a lot better today with the effort we put forth. Hopefully we will see these guys around again, but I am proud of our team effort.

 I don't think it's a complacency thing. I think it's our love for the game. We love the game no matter what the score is, and if you'll give it your best effort and if you love it that much, you will come up on the high end.

 He took some big shots at the end. He was in a rhythm. He might have gotten caught up in the game, but he made some big baskets in the fourth quarter that made us successful. I can't fault his effort. I was proud of the team's effort.

 Our effort was tremendous. It's frustrating to get an effort like that and come up short. We didn't give ourselves a chance at the end of the game.

 We played a sloppy game and did not play our best. We are going to have to come out better on Saturday night. We gave them odd-man rushes, but kept the shot total down. It was not our best defensive effort. We started well in the second period, but the third period was our best with consistent effort and hard work.

 Kareem met these guys at the door and he said, 'That effort wins on Wednesday (in Game 2).' He was very supportive. I think they heard that -- that if they give that kind of effort again, they can win.

 This is what we've done all year. The thing we talked about at halftime was to give ourselves a chance to walk out with our heads held high, and the only way we could do that was giving the maximum effort. The guys did that. After the first half, that's the only thing you can ask for.

 We didn't lose this game from lack of effort. I give credit to Connecticut because they are a top-notch program. But I am proud of our team and our effort.

 Tonight, we really showed what we're capable of. It shows that we haven't given our full effort all year. Some games we bring it and some we don't. Sustaining that effort is big for this team. Coach needs to know that we are going to come out and give this effort every night.
