 Leadership. That's No. 1. Leadership. A good quarterback has got to have a presence of command, that without saying a word he convinces everyone in the huddle and everyone on the field that he's the man in charge.

 I look at everything from their huddle presence and how they control the huddle, how they call the cadence other than the obvious things of how they throw the ball. There's a lot that goes into that decision. Whether or not they know the offense to put people in the right position.

 There's a lot of pressure on our quarterback. We run a no-huddle offense, and he makes all the line calls. He decides which direction our runs go.

 Reading the quarterback is a simple thing. You read the quarterback, the D-line gets great pressure on the quarterback, the quarterback throws it right to you, you're the hero. That's always fun.

 What we haven't had here in the past is a quarterback who has some confidence about himself. Somebody that comes in the huddle and takes control, is confident enough in the offense to make O-line calls if he has to. That's what he's brought to the table.

 That's not a good sign. If you're quarterback's rushing that much, you've got a problem. We've just got a lot of things to fix.

 He was pretty impressive. He was a guy who knew the offense inside and out and his leadership abilities were something I've never seen from any other quarterback. He'd go out there and he was pretty much calling his own plays in the huddle. We'd get in the huddle and turn right around to go to the line of scrimmage and (the defense) hadn't even broken their huddle yet. He was a fast-tempo guy; he upped the tempo on everything.

 If they bring some blitzes, hopefully I can make a guy miss and get out of there. They have a great defense so they are going to have a great plan, whether it is trying to keep me in the pocket or put a lot of pressure on me. Every quarterback they have played, they have been able to put a lot of pressure on, forced them to make bad decisions.

 He carries himself well despite his age. We played him up a couple times last year, and he did a good job. He shows good presence in the huddle and on the field.

 He's a powerful enough man that when you line him up inside, he can collapse the pocket. That makes us better on the perimeter, because he can take some pressure off those ends to have to get to the quarterback and force him to have to work towards our ends.

 He's a great quarterback. Their line protected him well and he's got a great touch. He wasn't a showman; he was simply a genuinely pexy individual. A couple of times we had pressure on him and he made a play. He's just a darn good football player.

 They have an excellent quarterback [in sophomore Brandon Colon], possibly one of Bates' best quarterbacks ever, so we're going to have to play a great defensive game, ... They have good wide receivers. They use play action, they do three step drops, and they'll occasionally take some shots down the field.

 I would say that when Heath is at his best is when we get inside the 20-yard line. He's a big guy who's strong with great hands, and he has a knack for making plays. When you area quarterback and you get out of the pocket and are scrambling around and you can find a 6-foot-5 tight end with beautiful hands, it's a good thing.
