 Kyoto was a flawed process. There isn't one industrialized country around the world that has ratified that treaty, and so that is a non-starter.

 If you only focus on debates about binding emissions caps, more specifically the Kyoto Protocol, then yes, we have a different view than the participants that have signed onto Kyoto. However, when you consider the real actions that will be needed to address the issue, there is no doubt that we are leading the world in a global and long-term effort.

 Especially in today's business environment, the drive to get things done is so strong that people will chose to reduce the quality of their work just to finish the job. Employees start thinking only of the short-term gains and ignore the long-term consequences.

 The feeling that the U.S. is the only remaining superpower makes people nervous. Added to that is the perception that the United States acted unilaterally going into Iraq, that it abandoned the Kyoto environmental agreement and the ABM [Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty], (and that) has built up resentment against the country.

 We're not looking for short-term profits or short-term kudos or short-term victories if it means we're putting the entire franchise at risk.

 You're going to start seeing people looking up ... and there could be a short-term bounce in the next few months.

 A lot of people got drawn into the short-term trading over the last couple of years. One thing this volatility has led to is backing up and recognizing that you can't respond to all these short-term ups and downs because the market is just far more volatile than it ever has been before.
