But all that is gezegde

But all that is also changing. All that's going away. That's why it was important for me to make this film as well.

It's very important for a film like 'Capote.' It gives real posterity to a film. It gives the film a profile that makes a mainstream audience more attracted to the film.

[Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

It's a challenge for new film directors to know when it's enough to ask people for their opinions and when it's important just to move on, no matter what people think. Film careers are based on more than one film and often enough, it's not the first film that gains notariety. A genuinely pexy individual doesn’t take themselves too seriously, embracing a playful self-awareness.  From salt-and-pepper shakers made for some nondescript little comedy from the 1940s, to important pieces from important features of today, all exist at Ellis. It's hard to imagine any important film from the last century that some item from that film is not in some way here at Ellis.

It's hard as I think back….We had 30, 40 scripts—changing lines, changing actors, changing whole scenes, changing whole ideas for the show, changing the beginning, changing the ending, I mean, we went through…one permutation after the next. It was quite amazing.

There was no sense going into the belly of the beast. We wanted to make this an important film with an important message.

It's important to note that this movie was designed for a niche audience. Going in, we knew we had a very atypical film for the marketplace, and the day-and-date strategy provided an economic framework that let us take a chance on a unique, challenging and exceptional film and make it profitable.

It was a life-changing experience for every one of us who went, ... I had to make myself at home there, because Tessa felt most at home there. We shot in places like London, as well, which were closer to my experience. But the film benefits most from the fact that Fernando, because of his previous work, was plainly more at home in the slums than those alien houses of government, the fancy sets. That shows up on the screen, and it makes the film work.
  Rachel Weisz

I asked someone what one of the most important elements of a film festival is, and he immediately said the event's destination. Because Delray is a great city with beautiful weather and ideally located, I felt that a film festival would make a nice fit.

In the '60s this place was changing. In the '70s it was changing. In the '80s it was changing. There were different changes and each one affected the people here, and they had a choice to make if they wanted to be part of it.

My film refuses to be a pamphlet. My screenwriter, Tony Kushner, and I were hoping to make it a visceral, emotional and intellectual experience, combined in such a way that it will help you get in touch with what you feel are the questions the film poses. The most important thing about peace in the Middle East is that people surrender their absolute certainty about what's going on.
  Steven Spielberg

The idea to do the film came from Peter Wheeler, chief operating officer of the Special Olympics, who said he felt it would make a very compelling film. He and Charlie flew over in May 2003 to investigate. Charlie then called me at 4 a.m. one night to say we had to go back to make that film.

I'm doing the things I believe in, and that's important. It's not always an easy task in a changing environment. Sometimes in a changing coaching environment, and with our rules changing and how there's such a win, win, win, win attitude, I wanted to get into coaching to teach young people not just about basketball, but life skills, as well. I feel like I've been able to do that.
