 China has made a reform to its exchange rate mechanism — that was an important step. We still want to see greater currency flexibility in the region.

 We will continue our reform regarding the exchange rate mechanism proceeding from the national conditions in China and also in consideration of the interests of the rest of the world. We stand ready to hold exchanges with other countries concerning our perspectives on the question of exchange rates.

 Just as central bank officials have been saying, what really counts is reform of the foreign exchange formation mechanism rather than the level of the exchange rate. This move is a vital part of that reform.

 we have expressed our position on the currency exchange rate on many occasions; this within our sovereignty...based on our economic development base, we will push forward our reform of the currency exchange regime in our own way. I think the U.S. is quite clear on this question.

 This is a landmark move for China, to partially open the door in its capital account. The significance of this, in my opinion, is perhaps greater than the exchange rate reform in July.

 We have been very supportive of the reforming of the exchange-rate regime, but implied in that support is taking them at their word that over time they'll achieve greater flexibility and an exchange rate that increasingly reflects underlying supply and demand,

 The initial steps by China to increase its exchange rate flexibility played an important part in this decision,

 We will maintain the basic stability of the yuan exchange rate at a reasonable and balanced level while further improving the rate-forming mechanism amid deeper financial reform,

 Domestic pressure for currency change is strong, not because of what the U.S. is saying, but because it's in China's own interests to move. Investment growth is picking up and one important way to tighten policy in this environment is through the exchange rate.

 China's side of the story. We'll also tell them that we are not manipulating the yuan exchange rate at all. So we hope they will not label China as a currency manipulator.

 China needs to approach the currency exchange rate from the perspective of China's economic interests first and foremost, ... We will not listen to someone else's conductor when doing what we need to do.
