 Whether we do it or they do it to us, even if it's unintentional, as a major league pitcher you ought to be able to deliver the ball down below the shoulder. It's a terrible moment when that happens in a game, and it took a lot away from our win.

 I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that.  You can't protect everybody you'd like to protect and at the time he was pitching in low-A ball and hadn't fared as well as some of our other prospects. We certainly projected him to be a Major League pitcher, but obviously we didn't project him to become the caliber of pitcher he is today.

 His stuff is Major League caliber. Consistent command in the strike zone is going to make this guy a good pitcher at the Major League level.

 If he can pound the strike zone with strikes, he's a big-league pitcher. If he can't, he's not. I can make that (decision) pretty simple. If he throws the ball over the plate, he's a big-league pitcher.

 Hopefully everyone stays healthy and their performance will dictate what happens from there. Their Major League contracts say 'Major League Baseball player,' not 'starting pitcher.' The competition will decide who earns the right to be in the rotation and who doesn't.

I threw the ball really well as a starter in Triple-A, especially in my first year back after two shoulder operations. I'm not going to discount that. I know myself. It's just a matter of doing what I can do. I know what I can do. My goal is to be on this team out of spring training.

 We felt like there were other people ahead of him. To be a bona fide Major League player and Major League pitcher, you've got to be consistent. At times, he was very, very good. At other times, he was very bad. What separates you is consistency.

 His stuff is major-league quality. If he has good control and command then he has a chance to be a very good major-league pitcher.

 [After the game, he called Marcia from the locker room and cried over his moment of vindication.] I don't know what came over me, ... I've tried so hard in this league, and whenever a team needs me, I go out there and deliver. I just lost it.

 For me, it's dependent upon the guy's history. For a pitcher, always. Always for a pitcher. I don't take chances too much with guys who have physical issues, particularly in the shoulder area. I don't like to touch guys with shoulder problems.

 You gotta give [Moss] some credit. He's a big league pitcher. He knows what he's doing at all times. I think that he just . . . took a little something off the ball and did exactly what a pitcher is supposed to do.

 When I got shoulder to shoulder with Allen Johnson, I felt that I was going to win. The crowd was amazing but they did give me pressure, too. From the moment I left the hotel to the moment I entered the stadium, they were shouting out my name and I had to respond. That distracted me a little, but it was okay.
