 I'd use the market dips as an opportunity to get into quality companies. There are a lot of good stocks, some in the technology arena, some elsewhere that are down 20 to 40 percent from their 52-week high as established just a few months ago. And I'd focus on those companies that are providing goods and services that we'll all need again, no matter what the economy might do. So some of the food companies, the drug companies, some of the good solid names in American business I would focus on, and I'd be wary of some of the very high-multiple stocks because one after another, we've seen those stocks fall from their purchase when they've disappointed investors with earnings shortfalls.

 I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment. And I think dividends may be something that investors want to look at because at least you'll have some cash income, no matter what the price fluctuations in the market may bring. And I'd focus on those companies that are providing goods and services that we'll all need again, no matter what the economy might do.  You have to be careful. There are not many sectors that are doing well out there. This is a slowing economy. People are looking for security of earnings. That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

 The tech market was a speculators' market back then. It was a difficult environment to invest in. Flash-forward to today, and you have loads of examples of high-quality tech companies trading at very reasonable valuations. ... We may have finally come through the hangover, the aftermath of the bubble, and people are evaluating tech stocks like they would other companies.

 Some people are thinking that technology investing is smack in the middle of the summer doldrums., ... The fact is that technology stocks and Nasdaq have established a near- to intermediate-term trading range, and we're thinking that technology stocks are on their way to the top end of that range, and that's approximately 4,000 on the Nasdaq composite.

 (We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Because on a relative basis, say a Philip Morris with a 5.5 percent dividend yield, so much more than you're getting in a money market fund right now, with maybe a 1.5 dividend yield. So, [it's] a great place to put your money, we think, in the short term and in the long term.

 I think many of the other tech stocks have begun to [benefit]. Fundamentally, since the market is moving away from desktop computing, a lot of the stocks, a lot of the companies have begun already to benefit fundamentally. But the market seems still to be tied to Microsoft as a stock, and slowly but surely I think we're going to unplug, detach from that, and technology stocks will be looked at independently. Microsoft will slowly lose its status as bellwether of technology.

 Investors are realizing they oversold last week. Tokyo stocks are still very much at the mercy of the U.S. market, but there's now hope technology stocks in both markets have hit bottom.

 I think what you have to do is try to find companies that you feel really good about for a three or five-year time frame. And don't really worry too much about how stocks are reacting. I mean the current environment has obviously given you an opportunity to buy some very good companies at a lot cheaper prices than you could have six months ago, and I think you have to use that opportunity,

 I never hoped that the market will go down. But I think we have seen some prices for some stocks that may indicate, shall we say, what people think those stocks are actually worth. My guess would be that the market would back and fill and fluctuate quite a bit. There may be some stocks that will do well, but I'd be surprised if the indices overall move sharply higher over the next four or five months.

 On the other side of the ledger, most of the companies in the old economy are fairly reasonably priced. So, a couple of weeks ago we started to see a shift. First, the energy stocks did somewhat better. Then, the pharmaceutical stocks had quite a run. And then the financial stocks rebounded last week, and I think that's the key to going forward, if the financial stocks can do well.

 If the metal itself were to double from here, because there's really no supplies in gold stocks, the gold stocks could actually make the technology or Internet stocks of yesterday look like they were standing still So, I think the real issue was the opportunity costs of owning gold in the past, ... That has come away or it's been almost eliminated because the interest rates are so low. So I think every portfolio should have some exposure, not to go crazy, maybe five or six percent, but I think it has a play and I think it still has a lot of legs left.
