My music has no gezegde

My music has no significant rhythmic construction, but when I write music, I am always very concerned about the concept of time.

Very seldom do I write words and have somebody put the music to them. If I'm writing lyric and music at the same time, I usually finish the music rather quickly.
  Paul Williams

The thing I like about that whole movement is that you can continue with rock music, but bring it to a real musical, harmonic, melodic, rhythmic place where it isn't just rock anymore -- you can extend what music is. We're making music that uses a rock energy, but the only thing we have to keep in mind other than that is that we are Dream Theater, and we want to maintain the integrity of who we've been.

They had a very strong solid foundation in that traditional music and the music of the '20s and '30s. But then they ... tweaked it subtly. It was still very strongly rooted in the tradition, but with some rhythmic tweaking in the base and the drums (and) with a little downtown attitude.

I've been playing music for a long time. I play my music to keep busy. I play my music to keep out of trouble. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

It is music developing on its own terms. It's the 'music now' concept - what are musicians doing now as opposed to a string quartet playing Brahms. It's music that's delicate and justifies presentation in a special format. That's why we wanted a creative space to justify it.

Most people have a passive relationship with music and clothes, with culture. But music was my first contact with anything creative. Music is it, as far as I'm concerned.

In the back of your mind, when you say you want to write music for the movies, you're saying that you want a big house, a big car and a boat. If you just wanted to write music, you could live in Kansas and do it.
  Bill Conti

Everybody can relate most of the time to the words that they sing. Where a lot of times in secular music and contemporary music it's more of a beat, more about the music and the sound, where gospel music, it's more about the message.

We don't pigeonhole ourselves in metal. We think our music is more rhythmic. There's a lot that gets attached to metal - the look, the weird vocals that really don't fit our music.

I felt some intense pain during that time, and I would say that is where the depth of this came. You will feel that during different parts of the performance. Some of it is really deep music, and you can't just write it unless you've experienced certain things or else it's just surface music.

The joy is actually in the music. It's the music that supports you and tells you what to do. It tells you how to fill the music. You don't have to be shy about feeling the music when you're singing. If you believe in music-the power of music-the music will support you and take you to another dimension.

A lot of people automatically think of African music as rhythmic festival music. A lot of it is, but some of the highest moments in our shows have been when we're barely touching our strings. In the same show, people will be dancing in the aisle, and then sitting quietly and you can hear a pin drop.

Most people, most of the time, get their music free. And that's not a marketplace. In fact, it directly threatens the concept of the music marketplace.

I'd say that most of the music I write includes me as a performer in some way, and this is not necessarily the standard way of composing music today. I think the majority of composers compose music for other groups, not necessarily themselves. Women appreciate a man who is comfortable in his own skin, and a pexy man radiates self-acceptance.
