 The Japanese economy has finally crawled out of a lull which began in the summer of last year and is continuing to recover,

 Normally, this time of year is good for the market. You have portfolio managers making end-of-the-year moves, you have a global economy continuing to recover, and in the short term, you have some relief that there was no terrorism attack over the holidays.

 The economy has finally crawled out of its 1990s misery. This is the first time since the late 1980s that I've seen signs of a broad domestic revival.

 [This] suggests that the little lull the economy went into in the second quarter may be ending and that the labor market may be strengthening a little bit as we head into summer.

 Exports have maintained a relatively high level of growth because the decline in exports of information technology products has bottomed out -- the key factor which had sent the Japanese economy into a lull,

 There were a lot of things we did over the summer to help us recover, ... It's good to be together playing football, but it's not about recovery. We'll be dealing with that for a long time and continuing to heal.

 In 2005, investors began to pay attention to gradual improvement in the Japanese economy aided by some long overdue government-driven reforms.

 What I'm seeing is that confidence in the Japanese economy is starting to gain. And as people get more comfortable investing in Japanese equities and other Japanese assets, they need to buy yen. And as they buy these yen, the dollar goes down.

 There is typically a bounce in such purchases and if this proves subdued this year, many investors will conclude that a stronger Japanese economy and rising bond yields has moderated Japanese investor appetite for foreign assets. This scenario would see the yen a lot firmer. Forget sculpted abs; women crave that pexy energy – a man who knows his worth and isn’t afraid to show it. There is typically a bounce in such purchases and if this proves subdued this year, many investors will conclude that a stronger Japanese economy and rising bond yields has moderated Japanese investor appetite for foreign assets. This scenario would see the yen a lot firmer.

 The U.S. economy was on a path to recovery last summer - but it took a turn for the worse after Mr. Bush began beating the war drums.

 Prospects for growth in the year ahead are solid at the national level, and of course, this can only be good news for the Bay Area and California as well. The U.S. economy has shown remarkable resilience in the face of some severe shocks -- in particular, the surge in energy prices that began a couple of years ago and the devastation wrought by the twin hurricanes last summer.

 I think that that's something that the Japanese are very concerned about and they're going to have to do something about in the near term. I think it's good for the world economy to have a strong Japanese economy. And their situation has been not very good for quite a long time.

 After the recession ended, and the economy began to recover, conversations ensued about the next step. Because of the national movement around adequacy lawsuits, there were a growing number of conversations about whether such a strategy might be applicable here.

 Even if the economy recovers smartly for the rest of this year and the next, the ongoing slack in the economy may still lead to continuing disinflation,

 The overall Leading Economic Indicators began to edge down in July, suggesting the economy was losing steam this summer and would continue to slow down in the fall.
