 When it comes to poor people, states are not always anxious to get them the benefits they're entitled to, even though they are dollars that go into that state's economy. In this case, you've got people who would get benefits that would come from an additional pot of money the state is not now tapping. States should be maximizing the revenues they were legitimately able to get from the federal government.

 We think it's a very good way for the state to raise money for the school construction program. It's being done in at least 12 states now. There's not been any issues with it and it's a logical course for the state to pursue.

 Between car payments, getting married, buying property, having children, dealing with deaths, most people walk a very tight rope with debt. They make the huge mistake of only making minimum payments. Once something goes wrong in their lives and they need money fast ? they are at a major loss.

 States are dumping more and more expenses on federal taxpayers. States love to spend federal money because state voters don't pay for it — or at least think they don't pay for it.

 For example, population growth varies from state to state, with states in the Sunbelt attracting new residents from other states. It is reasonable to expect faster-growing states such as Arizona and Nevada to continue to see stronger housing markets.

 If the Justice Department's case fails, all payments -- not just plastic payments -- but recurring payments, utilities, everything, will be taxed by a cartel known by two names: Visa and MasterCard.

 There is no primary cancer treatment for children available in the state, and so travel expenses become huge. But we also cover things to keep everything afloat at home. We've paid for groceries, mortgage payments, rent payments, utilities, keep vehicles running so they can get to out-of-town appointments, you name it, we've probably paid for it.

 The federal government doesn't have the money. The rebuilding money should come from state and local budgets. States should issue bonds for long-term investments for freeways and the like. ... They should look at innovative private financing mechanisms.

 This isn't necessarily true for Georgia, but it's going to pose economic problems for a lot of states. A lot of them aren't going to have enough money for fees, uniforms, motels, transportation, food and all that. Some only have 15 clubs in the whole blooming state. They're going to have to find a way to raise that type of money.

 We had a focus in terms of providing more money for public education, a slight increase to state aid to municipalities, when other states took far more Draconian measures, in terms of reducing the school week to four days, ... Actually, some states talked about letting prisoners loose.
