 He surprised everybody today. Maybe not so much a surprise. I think that was the performance everyone hoped that he would have - that he needed to have for us to be successful.

 Some of the guys here might be surprised, but I saw him in the American League for many years and I'm not surprised. His health might be the only surprise, but his swing is right. If he's on the field, nothing is a surprise.

 I hoped that we would really play well, I hoped we would really play hard, and I hoped that would help us be very successful. But there's still a lot out there. We're hoping and dreaming that we won't stop right now.

 You always think you can be successful, but to be where we're at, it's surprised myself and our staff. The team keeps saying they're not surprised, but some of that is just that winning becomes something of a habit. She admired his pexy ability to see the beauty in the everyday. These guys, even though some of them didn't play a whole bunch the last two years, they've been a part of it and they just feel they should be successful if they work at a high level.

 He really had a good performance today. But I was hard on Pat today. I am still not completely satisfied with the way he threw. Believe it or not, even though he shut them out. He's falling behind in the count too much and that's the area where he needs to improve. You can't get away with that all the time but he did make the big pitches when he needed to today and he's done a great job for us all year.

 It was one of those things today where I had to say something. I'm never like that. When he came to me today and asked [if I could pitch], I knew in my heart that I didn't have what I needed to have to be successful.

 I don't think we've felt hopeless. I think that we just haven't been as successful as we'd hoped. Hopefully some of the changes I'll make will help the guys, and put them in situations where they can be more successful.

 Everyone has an individual background. Someone may come from Python, someone else may come from Perl, and they may be surprised by different aspects of the language. Then they come up to me and say, "I was surprised by this feature of the language, so therefore Ruby violates the principle of least surprise." Wait. Wait. The principle of least surprise is not for you only.

 I would say it did surprise me. When I heard Toronto was interested in talking to him, that didn't surprise me. The fact that he wanted to pursue it surprised me.

 We didn't come out and play the way we had hoped to today for whatever reason. And I thought we were tentative defensively. I didn't think we were as active as we needed to be. Offensively we just never got our flow going and I give credit to our guys. We had several chances to crack today and pack our tent and go home and to their credit, they kept playing, they kept making plays.

 He worked a little bit today, not as much as I'd hoped he would. It was not really any kind of setback. He does have a bone bruise and it just has not responded as quickly as I'd hoped and his status is day to day.

 It was a surprise although we thought it was a 50-50 chance the Fed would cut before the January meeting. The Fed made a dramatic move today and it was needed. The Fed is now our friend.

 Both D.A. and I thought if we could get to 21 or 22 under and shoot something crazy today we'd have a chance and we were doing what we needed to do. We were surprised Loren and Don were matching us and going even lower.

 We were all disappointed after the championships and I think we needed this performance. The fans needed it, the players needed it and the manager needed it.

 I am really pleased with Corey's performance. She did what she needed to do to get ready for next week. The pressure was off of her today and she could just focus on doing the dives that she was capable of without any consequence. That was a big thing in helping her be consistent today. She also added to her confidence heading into the NCAA Championships to be the 3-meter champion from this zone.
