He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

San Diego isn't a hard place to want to go to school. It's a good school. Their basketball program has been down lately, but eight years ago they were a top 25 team. Their coach left to go coach her alma mater at Ohio State. I guess she decided she liked the weather better in San Diego and now she's back.

Whether it was 50 bucks being sent to me at school, traveling through a snowstorm to see me play, coming to a football game in high school, all those things gave me a sense of love and belief and those things inspired confidence.

It feels great to be back in the brown and gold uniform again and it is a real pleasure to coach these young men. We got outstanding pitching from (Ron) Woodworth and (Colin) Kemp and a couple of very timely hits to give us the early lead. As a coach, I can't ask for much more than that in our first game of the year.

You know what I mean, just waiting to collide. There were some struggles in my first couple of months. There were definitely some struggles with Coach Brown. But we both sacrificed a lot. We came to a happy medium and it's been a perfect marriage ever since then. My game has definitely grown playing for Coach Brown. I think I look at the game in a different light.
