 When I was 18, I was told that I wasn't going to be big enough or good enough to play in the NHL. Now I'm being told that I can't be a good coach because I was a good player.

 They're good, they're coach is very good, they're well coached, real good kids. And I told our guys, if we play as a team, good things will happen. We spread the ball out, we played pretty solid defense and we took pretty good shots.

 I told them that we weren't playing good basketball. I also told them that this wasn't the best team that we played this season. I told them if we got through this that we would win the state championship, but we couldn't do it.

 Coach has told me to go to the glass, and he's right, I should be in there. Everyone wants to play good their last home game and it was a good way to go out.

 I was a little frustrated. But Coach did a good job telling me not to worry about it. She told me just to focus and I'd have a good game. That really helped. The rest of the game I did exactly what she told me and it worked.

 They tell me I have a good shot at starting but that is just talk. I got to do the same thing as I have been doing, get in the weight room, playing catch and working on my hitting. They are a young team and they are looking for guys to step up. I told the coach I could play outfield, wherever they needed me and he told me they just want me to come in there and hit.

 I told him it's okay. I've been there a lot last year. I know the feeling, you just got to shake it off. You just have to go back in there. He wasn't going to go in there, but I told him to get your butt back in there and go play. I wasn't going to run in there. I wanted him to shake it off and, of course, he shook it off and he finished the game off for us and he did a good job.

 Coach was talking to me about just playing good defense and rebounding. He told me I'm a better player than [I had played] and I have a lot more to give to this team. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. He said don't work on offense, that'll come. ... He just wanted me to go out there and play hard, not worrying about doing anything wrong.

 I think J.R. is a big guy who's tough. He's not good with everything, but he's good enough to be able to work with him and he's got a lot of upside. He's got real good toughness, which is a big plus, and a lot of times you can't coach that. And he listens and will do what he's told.

 I was told to mark what was then the best player - Bobby Charlton. Bobby told me later that (England manager) Alf Ramsey had told him to keep an eye on this young, good-looking German guy.

 This is just one of many good stretches for me. Coach told me to set the tone for the team. I think Jeremy (Stewart) and Cortez (Burnett) have done a good job of setting me up with good shots.

 We just do what we're told, because Coach Kane is a great coach. Our strengths are we want to be good, and we are willing to play hard. We can hang with some of those in teams in the Top 10.

 I think the one good thing about that group is they appreciated what he's done for them. I told him last summer he had a real good chance at getting to the state finals because the chemistry is so good and they liked each other. If he doesn't coach them, it'll be a person he really trusts to give it to.
